drdo Medium Power Radar, christened Arudhra, is a rotating phased array 4D radar comprising solid-state Transmit/ Receive Modules (TRM) and is capable of automatic detection and tracking of helicopters, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), Remotely Piloted Vehicles (RPVs), fixed wing aircraft including fighters flying from very low altitudes to high altitudes. Its capability has been optimized to detect slow speed and low Radar Cross Sections (RCS) targets at a minimum range. The system is effective in generation of true air picture of all aerial targets for air defence operation using target identification capability based on interrogations from the co-located IFF-based on rotating phased array. The radar is capable of scanning electronically, both in azimuth and elevation, using wide transmit beam and multiple receive beams in azimuth and elevation. A cross pattern of five beams in azimuth and elevation is used for dedicated tracking of detected targets with good accuracy. The system is able to survive intense ECM environment and possible electromagnetic interference. Arudhra is fully programmable from the local operator work station (OWS) and from Remote Operator Work Station Unit. The radar operates either in staring or rotation mode. In rotation mode, the antenna rotates at the programmable rate with volumetric surveillance. In staring mode of operation the antenna stares in specified azimuth with surveillance coverage of ±60o in azimuth and 30o in elevation.

another pic of one of the interceptors of the Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) System of of DRDO test fired today. the interceptor name is AAD (advance air defence) , AAD is the last line of defence against ballistic missiles especially tactical missiles. also there r other interceptors like PAD, PDV etc in the drdo BMD system

Yesterday’s AAD mission was as an HTK intercept, together with the initialization of pre-fragmented warhead on-board the missile via the missile’s radio proximity fuze (RPF) as it neared the incoming target. AAD demonstrated ability of both Heat To Kill (HTK) and charge explosion capacity. The entire thought of having a warhead in spite of HTK capacity is to take into account the spread for multiple approaching. For the most part HTK is utilized to knock off a nuke missile which can be activated on if warhead detonates. Though for non nuke adversaries it is much imperative to take out the foe warhead with the goal that it should not be activated later if rocket is knocked off. Prior to launch, ground based radars such as the Long Range Tracking Radar (LRTR) and the Multi-function Fire Control Radar (MFCR) located faraway from the AAD’s launcher acquired the target, tracked them and passed on the data to the Master Control Centre (MCC), which generated the expected trajectory of the target and alerted the interceptor missile. Both of these radars were initially developed by DRDO’s Electronics and Radar Development Establishment (LRDE), Bengaluru. The version of the LRTR used in today’s yesterday’s AAD mission is an L-band array that can track a ballistic target with a radar cross section (RCS) of 0.1 sqm from over 1500 km away. MFCR, which is a S-band array has a tracking range of over 370 km for a target with a RCS of 0.3 sqm. Both radars are capable of variable track rates. Once launched, the AAD was initially guided by its on-board inertial navigation system (INS) which received continuous updates about the incoming target’s trajectory from the ground-based radars mentioned above through a secure data link. After that, a radio frequency (RF) seeker in the AAD’s nose cone section tracked the target while an intercept course was plotted by its on-board computer (OBC). series of screen shot explaining the AAD test
