Prolonged KSU Strike: NANS Passes Vote Of No Confidence On Kogi State Govt. by harjayi(m): 11:43am On Jul 12, 2016
The national leadership of National Association of Nigeria Student, NANS, has resolved to go on with the planned protest to force an early re-opening of the famous Kogi-State University, Anyigba, starting from Wednesday, 13th July, 2016, being the terminal date of the seven (7) days ultimatum without any appreciable effort of commitment by government to resolve ASUU, Kogi State chapter crisis and return students back to campus. In a press statement signed by Comrade Ezekiel Nwankwo, the Public Relations Officer of NANS, the student apex body passed a vote of no confidence on the Governor Yahaya Bello-led government for lack of administrative capacity to negotiate an early re-opening of the institution. According to Comrade Nwankwo, the decision of NANS to pass the vote of no confidence and shut down activities across the state from Wednesday is based on the several attempts to work out a NANS solution which was continually resisted by the appropriate agent of government. “There has been several attempts to hear from government, but we where rudely rebuffed by government appointees, we are therefore left with no choice but to do the needful protest, which is one of our core mandate to support our follow Students of KSU”, the statement read. “We are as well, most disappointed in the Special Adviser to the Governor on Student Affairs, Youth and Sport who has refused to show any commitment to the affairs of the students he was appointed to coordinate in the first place. We therefore urge the state government to make judicious use of state meager resources to work in the interest of Education and infrastructural development of the people. “The inability of the government to resolve substantial issues relating salaries is most unfortunate as we cannot even begin to talk of issues of development in the university as at today. “All security agencies are therefore urged to provide adequate security for a peaceful Nigerian students protest in Lokoja, Kogi-State on Wednesday 13th July, 2016. An injury to one student is an injury to all Nigerian students.
