Troops of 119 Task Force Battalion stationed in Kangarwa community in Borno State yesterday evening, after a three hour gun battle, repelled attacks by Boko Haram members. A statement by the army spokesperson, Colonel Sani Usman said the attack started at about 6.30pm and end at about 9.30pm.

Two soldiers were killed during the attack while seven others were seriously injured. Several Boko haram members also lost their lives. Sani in the statement said the bodies of the soldiers and those wounded in action are being evacuated

“It should be noted that the successful repelling of the attack was made possible by support from the Nigerian and Chadian Air Force fighter jets,” the army statement added...

They suffered heavy casualties as stated below:
BHT came with heavy wpns incl 1 x MOWAG and 1 x SAGEI Li Tk. Own Cas. KIA - 2 incl a Capt and WIA - 7. The cas were evac to Baga by Rd. During the exploitation of the gen area after the attck BHT Cas were discovered. 25 x BHT KIA abandoned. BHT Eqpt Cas. 1 x AA gun truck destroyed while 1 x 60mm Mor, 2 x RPG tubes, 12 x AK 47 Rifles, 1 x LMG, 1 x GPMG, assorted ammo and 1 x Doron Baga Veh recovered. Similarly, 157 tps ambushed BHT at Yoyo village (N 12 44' 58" - E 13 39' 53" on 12 Jul 16. BHT Cas. KIA - 1. Eqpt Cas. One. 1 x AK 47 Rifle. Two. 1 x Motorcycle. Three. 100 Ltrs of PMS . Four. 8 x pkts of NASACAM Capsules and 1 x Ctn of MIXAGRIP.
