Chinese Cartoon Mocks Philippines – After the ruling of the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) favoring the Philippines over China against its claims on the West Philippine Sea, Chinese netizens expressed their disappointment using a mockery cartoon.
The mockery was in the form of a cartoon that is now going viral on the Internet and the social media. The said cartoon in the Chinese language was posted on the Chinese microblogging site Weibo. There, it can be sensed that the Philippines was identified as a “banana seller” who ‘dared to steal from its “father”, China.

According to an article on Quartz, Weibo, have called on to its users to express themselves regarding the ruling made by the PCA against its claims over the West Philippine Sea.
‘The arbitration is an empty paper. We just think of it as a bunch of idiots talking to themselves,” posted one commenter.

The said cartoon started wherein the Philippines is claiming that the West Philippine Sea is not of China. Then, it is followed by a response by China saying “Oh? Really?” while staring at the Philippines with “wisdom”. Others even said that China must consider “starting a war” or “boycotting the Philippines.”

Next, the Philippines can be seen sweating and thinking “I’m panicking” inside.

Then in the last part, it can be seen that China slapped a crying Philippines and calls it a banana seller. The line reads, “How dare you! A banana seller dares to rob the [West Philippine] Sea from your father!”

The Philippines has been exporting bananas to China over the years.
What can you say about this action made by Chinese netizens? Do they really need to do such thing?

What do you think of China’s stand regarding the ruling of the Permanent Court of Arbitration over its massive claims in the West Philippine Sea?

When E H Carr, Henry Kissinger and most notably, Hans Morgenthau, among other realist thinkers argued persuasively in the aftermath of the gruesome ww2 that the idealist paradigm is a tall and unreachable dream, more than few wrote them off as a clique of sadistic warmongers. Morgenthau couldn't have been more right when he summised that nation states are driven by the quest for power- power to control the mind and actions of other men. China's seeming disregard for PCA rulings over the western phillipine sea debacle, clearly authenticates the fear of most feather weight states that "the force of any internation law is only forceful to the extent of the state to which it applies".

China has refused to participate in the arbitration proceedings, reiterating that the tribunal in The Hague has no jurisdiction over the case, which is in essence related to territorial sovereignty and maritime delimitation.

Ad hoc tribunal on South China Sea arbitration has no legal relationship with PCA.

experts said at the Public International Law Colloquium on Maritime Disputes Settlement held here at the weekend.

The ad hoc tribunal is rather an arbitration set up under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), Myron Nordquist, professor of the University of Virginia, said on Saturday.
