The Minister of Youths and Sports, Solomon Dalung, at the weekend narrated how he travelled to Oporoza in Gbaramatu kingdom in Delta State for a meeting with the militant group, Niger Delta Avengers (NDA).

Dalung who spoke to a selected group of journalists at the end of a stakeholder’s meeting of the Southern senatorial zone of Plateau State in Shendam, said he took a two-hour journey on the sea to Oporoza in Gbaramatu kingdom where he met with the leadership of the NDA who gave him a sealed hand-written letter to deliver to President Muhammadu Buhari.

He said, “On reaching the community after the two-hour journey on the high sea, I met with the members of the communities who told me that their dream was to be included in the Nigerian project, that the education facilities and other basic social amenities are almost non-existent in the communities. They also raised concern of incessant attacks by the Nigerian Military.”

The Minister said he took the trip last Wednesday as part of federal government’s commitment to good governance and his strong concern for the Nigerian youths, adding,

“As a youth minister, I know there the Avengers are mostly youths who have potentials to be great citizens of this country.”

Dalung stated that after meeting with the communities, he was escorted by the Niger Delta ambassadors to the leadership of Avengers who gave him a hand-written letter specifying their demands which he said he was yet to present to the President.

Although the Minister said he did not unseal the letter, he said the Avengers had raised three important issues to him;

“The issues include the Niger-Delta Maritime University, pipeline community policing which they said the government had denied them, and the inability of the government to continue with the amnesty programme established by former President Umaru Musa Yarádua Yar’Adua.”

While speaking on the level of degradation and poverty in the area, he said past administrations had been unjust to the Niger-Delta communities, adding,

“After going round some of the communities, I noticed that government projects were almost non-existent. I saw a secondary school signboard somewhere but the school is yet to be developed, the community has a clinic but still at the foundation level and a borehole that is not functional.”

No presence of govt there but their son was president for 6 yrs, they have governor, they have senator, they have rep, they have local govt chairman, they have state house of assemblymember, even they have councilor, they have NDDC, they ministry of niger delta....their fault I think.

What does it take you to say you met with aggrieved Niger Delta youths from Oporoza who stated their grievances instead of you to lie about meeting avengers in that community.

Well sha, president Buhari describes you guys as noise makers so I don't expect anything intelligent from any minister right now tongue

The last paragraph though, must u always be inclined to vilify the last administration? Where is the level of the ogoni cleanup u flagged of last month and what else ve u done so far for the SS?

That NDA is agitating now shows that the present FG made a mistake in their SS policies since 2015.

Anyway, I hope the ND issues be resolved so we can enter the lost path of economic revival.

Am not saying Niger Delta is not underdeveloped... But it's not the most underdeveloped region in the country as they always say (most ijaws haven't seen past asaba or aba before tho)
Another issue is this who do u blame for the underdevelopment? And I don't think it's the fedral government
how much has NDDC received in the last 16 years? It's over 2.5 trillion... How many primary health care centers or schools will this build...
How many 3million grant will that give u?

This is not among the 13% derivation the states get... This is not the ministry of Niger Delta... This not the money oil companies give the host communities...

I just want to challenge anybody to tell me what u think the FG should have done that they have not done...
The state, local government and community leaders have failed there people... Don't push the blame to the federal government

If u want the fedral government can keep the money and develop the states and community for u guys... But no u would rather die...

Am tired of this Niger Delta issue

Their son was a vice-president, acting-president and president for 8 years, if he couldn't help them why should Buhari do? If all their son did was share money, squander the country's resources and keep stolen money in banks all over the world, why should Buhari care about them?

I foresee the NDA coming out to debunk this lie. This guy didn't meet the Avengers. Their demand isn't about amnesty and the pipeline protection contract this dude mentioned.

Solomon Dalung must be a student of Liar Mohammed.

The issues include the Niger-Delta Maritime University, pipeline community policing which they said the government had denied them, and the inability of the government to continue with the amnesty programme established by former President Umaru Musa Yarádua Yar’Adua.”

The amnesty programme has a lifetime which was meant to have expired December.

“After going round some of the communities, I noticed that government projects were almost non-existent. I saw a secondary school signboard somewhere but the school is yet to be developed, the community has a clinic but still at the foundation level and a borehole that is not functional.”

That did not start with this administration, tell us another lie,

One day we shall know the real truth, for now Nigerians can continue celebrating criminals .

I dont believe that man met the real avenger. We have many imposter claiming to be avenger in other to get something from government. I thing they have made stated their demand or have they changed there demand. I think federal government should be careful not to negociate with the wrong person

I keep repeating it that we are holding the wrong person accountable for the under development of the Niger Delta. Their Governors are there. Government at every level is there as you pointed out.

I expect them to first call their Ward Counselors, their Local Government Chairmen, their Governors, their Senators and House of Representative nominee before fighting the Federal Government. Can we say over the years that the Federal Government has not provided funds to develop the region beyond the rot we now see? What happened to the funds?

Our hope is that a quick and lasting solution will be found for this problem. It is a setback not only to the country, but specifically to the people in these communities.

I show concern for Oporoza community. The military will always invade and attribute the community to Niger Delta Avengers. It is bad PR for the community.

AntiWailer:
The main reason has been stated.
Pipeline policing contract.

And you think those demands are from the real Avengers.

the Avengers demands are too far reaching than pipeline contracts. clearly Dalung has engaged a group not representative of the true Avengers.

Just wait till they come out to debunk the claims
Re: My Encounter With Niger-Delta Avengers- Solomon Dalung by Okijajuju1(m): 8:45am On Jul 18, 2016
Militants... One of the Enemies of the Niger Delta.

Like I said: The reason behind the renewed militancy in the Niger Delta remains "Pipeline Protection Contract".. This is one chopping that the Presidency removed. This is just pure Blackmail. The COmmunity are simply saying pay us or we blow up the pipelines. grin If I were the President, I would deploy armed security to guard Pipelines and issue them a Shoot-to-kill order for any muthafucker caught fhucking with he pipelines.

The continuation of the Amnesty Programme is not feasible nor sustainable and should never have been started in the first place.

The Maritime University.. If they want it so badly, they should go and find out who in their community collect 13 Billion Naira for that Project first. They cant eat their cake and have it.

Well done Mr Minister.
It is sad to note that their brother was at the presidency for 6 years. All the monies voted for NDDC were stolen under his watch. that explains why there is a sign post for a school without any physical building.

It's good the government has admit failure in addressing the Niger Delta issue. But, nothing spoil as "Failure is simply an opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently."
