Nans Convention 2016 by Nobody: 6:49am On Jul 19, 2016
As an eye witness of The 2016 annual convention of National Association of Nigerian students(NANS) I write to bring to the notice of the public my view, sugestion and conclusion of the just concluded NANS election at Pantami stadium Gombe. By zoning there are four zones in the NANS Convention which are Zone ABCD.
Zone A comprising of Northwest and Northeast, While the Zone B is comprised by South South and South East, Zone C is for North Central and Zone D is for South West.
At the convention it would be observed that they were four powerful contenders among the eight aspirants for the presidential seat from each.
1. Comrade Sheriff Emeka
2. Comrade Chinoso Obasi AKA Aluta IBB
3. Comrade Igwe
4. Comrade Harunahe
Though some factions of the association concluded that the convention is Inconclusive due to the selfish and political interest of their camp while majority of the well guided students of the association believe there is no point quibbling over what could have caused the unclear origin of the mayhem that later erupted at the later stage of the election which in it real sense led to the legally autonomous leadership of Comrade Prince Miaphen the elected Convention chairman 2016.

Please, permit me to delve into history a bit for the purpose of clarity for the debutants and those with little idea about NANS.

In the 1970s, the National Union of Nigerian Students (NUNS) was founded. Few years after, in the year 1980, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) was founded to replace the now defunct National Union of Nigerian Students (NUNS).
The main duty of the Association is to protect the interest of Nigerian Students by
1. RECOGNISING the need to consolidate ourselves into a truly autonomous National, Active, Progressively and Democratic Association in order to assert the rights of students and discharge our responsibilities as informed members of the society;
2. REALISING the need to support by all means possible the fundamental freedoms of thought and expression, association and movement;
3. APPRECIATING the problems of our country and the role we must play in the maintenance of a democratic, open and progressive National Education System whereby, every Nigerian Citizen shall have an unlimited opportunity to education;
3. COMMITTED to harnessing the enthusiasm of students for dynamic National development in the political economic, technological and social spheres;
3. DEDICATED to the total liberation of the African people from all forms of foreign domination and to the attainment of African Unity;
4. DETERMINED to engage our members in the National Scheme of Social Progress aimed at the total mobilization of the Nigerian people towards realizing National ideals and to oppose at all times and in all places any form of exploitation, discrimination and oppression amongst the people of the world and to work for the realization of world peace and total disarmament.

NANS does not and would not in anyway conform to any secret society no matter the intimidation and popularity of the secret society. While it is also imperative to remember the key aims and objectives of the organisation

v. The legitimate interests of students in social security national reconstruction and cultural activities.
vi. The struggle of Africans and other oppressed peoples of the world for self-determination against imperialism colonialism, neo-colonialism, exploitation and any form of discrimination.
vii. The struggle for peace and total disarmament.
