Peter Obi, Anambrans And The Politics Of Hate! (lengthy But Worth Reading) by ANSOM: 8:16pm On Jul 19, 2016
On exactly Tuesday the 12th of July 2016, we the team of ANSOM Anambra State Online Media received an email on Facebook by some group of persons who requested that we publish an article on our page.

As our policy demands, we replied that the article be sent in a draft for us to review, in order to determine if it is worth publishing and to notify them of what it would involve to post the article either as an advert or contributory post on our page before giving our terms.
We got the article same day and when we perused it, we found the contents to be mind-boggling.

It was an article which was written about or should we say against the person of the former Governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi. We wouldn't begin to enumerate all the strong and repugnant content of the article as doing that will take a lot of time but in summary, the content was articulated on the personal life of Mr. Peter Obi in very heavy phrases which would leave any reader bewildered in awe and disdain for the former Governor.

The article which to us is a "Hate Article" enumerated so many sins, abominations and misconduct perpetrated by Peter Obi ranging from Money Laundering, Petty Theft, Drug Trafficking, Cultism and even Sexual Offences ranging from Rape, Incest and Pedophilia.

We thereafter called for an emergency board meeting and unanimously decided that we would not publish the article not just because it would be too demeaning to Mr Obi but also because it was most likely an article conceptualized on the basis of personal vendetta and most likely devoid of facts.

We relayed this decision to the person(s) who sent it in and they tried to coax us into rescinding on that decision with juicy monetary offers but since a good name is worth more than gold and silver, we stood our ground.

This is our standpoint! We the team of Anambra State Online Media ANSOM are not in anyway sponsored by any person or group of persons whether financially, materially or otherwise in order to curry favor from any such individuals or group which inadvertently will reflect on the articles which we post on our page.

It is true that we may have made attempts in the past for sponsorship from the Anambra State Government in terms of finance, logistics and manpower to move this scheme beyond what it is today but such efforts were frustrated by the Media Unit of the Anambra State Government House.

When that happened, we did not rest on our oars or throw our cargo overboard in retreat but decided to continue with the little resources we had at the time. We had just one major focus which was to showcase to the world the transformation which was underway in Anambra and to also unite Anambrans wherever they are both at home and in Diaspora.

We can beat our chests to say that Anambra State Online is growing by the day with more members joining and counting. Whatever we publish here on our page or outside facebook is usually investigated, verified and confirmed to be factual before we post it without minding whose ox is gored!

So it would be laughable to think that anyone will come out of the shadows to make mouth-watering offers for us to tilt the truth! In this case scenario involving Peter Obi, what then is the truth?

ANAMBRA STATE ONLINE AND PETER OBI

Peter Obi is not known to us personally! We have no affiliation with him neither have we met him in person.
We only see and know Peter Obi as the former Chief Executive of Anambra State whose ascent to the apex seat of power in Anambra State was a dramatic one in which the people of Anambra embraced whole-heartedly and saw the decisions of the Courts who gave the ruling as hope to the common man.

Peter Obi took over from Dr. Chris Ngige who was under the PDP at the time after his victory at the courts that sacked Ngige in August 2005, where an election Tribunal led by Justice Nabaruma nullified Ngige's 2003 victory.
Ngige appealed to the Nigerian Federal Court of Appeal, but the annulment was confirmed on 15 March 2006, in a judgment awarding victory to Peter Obi of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

No further appeals were possible, and Ngige accepted the judgment in good grace, calling on the people of Anambra to give their total support to his successor in the person of Peter Obi.

It is noteworthy to elucidate that before we were approached by the individuals with the anti-Obi publication, we had on saw a couple of messy write-ups about him scattered here and there on social media.

As normal practice entails, we scout online content about various incidences and events and on some occasions, we stumbled upon various anti-Peter Obi publications especially on Facebook.

At first, we waved it off as one of the antecedents of probably those who had one form of personal grouse with him or the other but the trend of such reports became so consistent that we knew something was not just right.

There was an occasion where it was reported that he was wanted by the EFCC which we felt was normal because one would agree that the EFCC may on some occasions invite an ex-governor to clear some issues on financial misappropriation which may have been noticed and moreover, in this present political atmosphere which seems to be in favor of APC as against the opposition PDP of which Peter Obi recently decamped to from APGA.

On another occasion, we came across another publication about Peter Obi embarrassed by the Former Vice President Chief Alex Ekwueme in a gathering where it was postulated that the Elder Statesman told Obi that he was a shame to Ndigbo and wanted to leave the event until Peter Obi rushed to plead with him.

About two days later, a refutal was presented by the media spokesperson of Peter Obi denying that anything like that ever happened.

Then came a report that Peter Obi was involved with a woman somewhere in Indonesia who had a love child for him but details about it was sketchy but the big one was where his daughter was said to have confessed that her father(Peter Obi) was molesting her sexually at night!

WE AT ANAMBRA ONLINE ASK:

Where is the evidence that backs up all these stories if they ever happened?
Have any of the victims come out publicly to say that Peter Obi is actually guilty of these crimes he is accused of?

If Peter Obi is as bad as these people say he is, why didn't all these things come to light in the event of his campaign for the seat of Governor or during his tenure? Why are all these ugly details revealed now? Is this a smear campaign to destroy his political ambition in the Senate?

Is it actually because they are true or merely because of his exit from the fold of the All Peoples Grand Alliance (APGA) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)? If yes, when has it become a crime for one to change his political views where it suits him?

What baffles us at Anambra Online is that majority of the individuals who are behind this reports are Anambrans!

We at Anambra Online do not know if these reports against the person of Peter Obi are actually true but we would like to iterate that if they are, then it can be said that the people behind them are raising their voices in unison for justice, which is morally right.

But if these publications and reports are merely because of Peter Obi's change of Political Party or merely because they have a score to settle with him personally or in politics, then we can surely say that it is nothing but an assassination of his character which can be seen as a very serious offence if he (Peter Obi) decides to take legal action.

Peter Obi should not be hated just because of his decision to decamp to PDP because Peter Obi committed no crime but only exercised his RIGHT OF ASSOCIATION as a citizen.

This is stipulated in Chapter 4 Section 40 of the CONSTITUTION OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA 1999 and states thus:
"Every person shall be entitled to assemble freely and associate with other persons, AND IN PARTICULAR HE MAY FORM OR BELONG TO ANY POLITICAL PARTY, trade union or any other association for the protection of his interests: Provided that the provisions of this section shall not derogate from the powers conferred by this Constitution on the Independent National Electoral Commission with respect to political parties to which that Commission does not accord recognition."

If Peter Obi was or is involved in any form of heinous crime, he should be reported to the Law Enforcement Agents who will investigate and if there is proof, he will be prosecuted. Writing publications against him amounts to nothing but what we can term as giving the dog a bad name in order to hang it.

Anambra State Online hereby states that on no condition will we be involved in shame-naming any individual no matter how highly placed or insignificant he or she may be because of the monetary gains or just for the fun of it.

We are here to unite and NOT TO DISINTEGRATE Anambrans. It is high time we Anambrans come together as one and stop this politics of hate. We need to be our brother's keeper.

We are all aware of the struggle by some indigenous groups like the IPOB who clamor for the Sovereign State of Biafra. If peradventure, the struggle comes to effect, is this how the Igbos will fight themselves?
This is the reason why the Northerners and South Westerners (Hausa and Yoruba) treat us like second-class citizens. They know that the Igbos are not united like they are.

The Hausas more especially forge a common front among themselves irrespective of State of Origin. Whenever or wherever they gather, they don't see each other as Kano, Kastina, Sokoto, Gombe indigenes but Hausas.

A very good example of where this played out was in the last elections on 2015 that saw Mohammed Buhari as president. There was never a scenario where someone from Bauchi or Zamfara said the he does not support Buhari because he is from Kastina.

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for Igbos. It is a common sight on social media to see where someone from Imo State who verbally abuses someone from Anambra simply because he is from Imo, someone from Enugu mocking someone from Abia and vice versa.
The indigenous states are not left out. For example, someone from Agulu will berate someone who hails from Aguleri in the same Anambra State simply because Peter Obi and Willie Obiano are from these places respectively...WHAT A CRYING SHAME!

Incidentally, today the 19th of July marks the Birthdays of two former friends now rivals Chief Victor Umeh and Mr. Peter Obi! Anambra State Online felicitated with them on our page and we wish them long life and success in their political endeavor.
Both Men are contesting for the Anambra Central Senatorial Seat and we should give them our support devoid of party politics.

If Peter Obi wins the seat, it is a victory for Anambra Central, if Chief Victor Umeh wins it, it is still a victory for Anambra Central.

If our politicians are having issues among themselves, let us leave it for them to resolve rather than fan the embers of hatred on Social Media and allowing ourselves to be tools for sowing seeds of hatred among our children as the ordinary citizens.
Chris Ngige, Victor Umeh, Peter Obi are our brothers. Each one of them has in the past made their impact in the political circle of our dear state which they will be remembered for though they belong to various political parties from the PDP, APGA and APC. None among them is saint and each has their own flaws.

These political parties came to be at a certain date and on a particular day in the future, they will cease to exist. But the legacies a man leaves behind is what will last for almost a life time. What we owe them is our prayers and God's guidance to serve us with the fear of God in their hearts including the present Governor of Anambra State Dr. Willie Obiano.

Umu Nnam, a word is enough for the wise. Enough of all these hate campaigns which further divides our resolve as brothers. Let us bear in mind the popular Igbo slogan "Igwebuike" which means "There Is Unity in Strength".

This message is not just for Anambrans alone but Ndigbo in general!

Signed,
Director for Media Operations
Anambra State Online Media (ANSOM)

The op has a PhD in disjointed logic and Gibberish Writing. It's like a drama play by a failed playwright.
So shameful that this kind of literary jargon can be written by people laying claim to being indigenes of a state that produced a literary icon like Chinua Achebe .
Please go and give this write up to a professional editor abeg, it's either here no there

Lengthy but pointless article. It serves no political or academic purpose. In fact, I would say it was only written to attract the attention of Peter Obi or someone associated with him for the possible sponsorship of your media outfit.

As a media outfit, you should understand that getting negative allegations and stories about leaders are almost constant occurrences. It is either your duty to print it or reject it. Pledging allegiance to leaders should not be what an Independent media outfit should be doing.

Your duty is to report news and meaningful articles not engage in partisan politics.

Before you take my advice wrong and bash me, know two things: I'm from Anambra and I like Peter Obi.

Irrespective of the fact that I don't get this article...but let me address the part you quoted. We are humans not gods ...We live in an imperfect world or earth not in a perfect paradise...We experience realistic events not idealistic events...We are united as in real unity... Competition or territorial struggles is natural and cannot be eschewed...It promotes healthy competition among peers....Every man wants to be identified and counted superior irrespective of origin...Let's stop being idealistic and seeing problems where is NONE... Would my dissing you that Anambra is "superior" to Imo in every terms stop me from running to relax or catch fun in IMO or even drop my IMO friends or relatives?...All those agitations are ephemeral and natural...thanks

Well, you should be used to reading negative reports online. It's not a new thing and it will continue indefinitely.

Sometimes we don't hear ourselves speak. You sounded partisan. Maybe you didn't intend to but that's how your written words feel.

You'd be naive to advise people to criticise constructively. It's the way of people. Some will be critics while some will be haters. You can't change them.

Anyway, I know what you did was well intended. Any Anambrarian that holds no respect for Peter Obi deserves an Mbadinuju governorship, but your presentation of it in your article was just not meaningful enough to capture me.

One further advice bro, if you aim to be a professional media outfit, you should not engage in cross insults with some of your readers. I saw some counter insults you gave to some commenters. It's best you thank them and leave them

Imagine this lost soul using the struggle by IPOB for the restoration of the sovereign state of Biafra to make comparsion of how we will hate ourselves if Biafra is restored because of an entirely niGERia and Igbo political issues?. If you don't know the ideology guiding Biafra then you had better shut up than making clueless and kindergarten comparsions? Btw, what do you intend to achieve with this article? To get the attention of Peter Obi to be rogered? Or what exactly?
