I Just Saw Why your car ABS Can Save your Life. by Homguy(m): 8:41am On Jul 21, 2016
I was travelling yesterday, from Owo to Ilesha. Just leaving Ogbese towards akure airport, an oncoimg car while trying to dodge a large crater on the road suddenly left its lane and faced the vehicle in front of mine. It was a tight call, the car ahead immediately swerved off the road and in a split moment reaction i braked and swerved only to find i had lost my steering control with the car skidding off into the bush. Being a car equipped with ABS, i would expect to still have some steering control while hard braking. But alas i saw my self rushing through the bush only a small ditch stopped the car. I felt guilty my ABS light has been on, and i hadnt bothered about rectifying it. Luckily no serious damage was done to the car, just scratches to my clean paint cry .I intend to fix all before travelling any long distance with this car again.
Please house whats they first step ? This is ONDO state not lag. Its difficult finding any Kazeem that knows what an ABS is. I am in Owo presently, any advice or recommendation woul be appreciated.

Car is a 2004 Kia Optima Ex 2.4l i4.

The abs allows a lil roll of types to as to allow control in swerves.

Any modern mechanic who understands this dynamics shouldn't have probs fixing it.

Seriously with the way things are in Nigeria, service industry is the key.

A US style junkyard and fleet of two trucks is my team setup.

I'll pick up the broken customer cars and simply drop it off at you guys shop.

If you need part, we'll pull serviceable bits off of junk cars and deliver to your shops.

If you call by 9am you'll have it by 3pm anywhere in south half of Nigeria. Things like that.

But I digress. Again.

My friend and i had a similar experience a month ago. One of the ABS sensors has been having small issues since a mechanic cut the harness. The wire was only connected by twist and taped with electrical tape insulator. Every time work is done on the wheel the wire disconnects. This time it was disconnected and my friend planned to solder the wires so that the joint will be stronger. Having no much time, he kept driving the car with ABS light on the dash knowing its just a simple wire he can work himself.

This fateful rainy morning, we were not going to work late and in a hurry on the popular Kubwa express in Abuja. He was doing 140km/h, approaching a corner with a car in front and a pool of water with not very good set of tires. He applied brakes and the tires instantly locked with no ABS, skidding out of control to the open drains. We hit the side kerbs which sent us drifting towards the median missing it by whiskers before coming to a stop after several drifts left and right. It was only the alloy wheel that took the hit but i had to point out to my friend how the series of carelessness almost killed us or destroyed his car.

Op edit your heading to 'HOW' and not 'WHY' it saves lives.

We all know ABS is installed in cars to save lives but few people know 'HOW' it does it and not 'WHY'
