Diamond Bank Disengages Staffers, Cannot afford to Pay Entitlement

There is nowhere in the world where workers are disengaged without reason yet the company refuses to pay due entitlement and/or compensation; it is callous, irresponsible and conduct unbecoming from the management of Diamond Bank.

This was the opening statement from Olaide Akinwummi Janet (not real names), a former member of staff of Diamond Bank.

Janet was amongst the over four hundred (400) Diamond bank staffers recently disengaged; She turned up for work one morning only to receive a letter of termination sent to her private e-mail account.

Janet’s termination just like the Four Hundred (400) others was given absolutely no reason for the Layoff. Janet and the other 400 Diamond Bank Disengaged workers have not received their due entitlement and compensation as prescribed in Nigeria’s Labour Act Section 20 (2)

The Story becomes worse for some others who had their official bank accounts Debited for amounts as high as N900,000:00 (Nine Hundred Thousand Naira), some running into millions of Naira. These Debits were made from Diamond Bank, and no explanation whatsoever was given.

The Main issue remains If you Must Disengage workers, then you must be buoyant enough to pay them off, or is Diamond Bank running into distress?

Another Worker stated

Now the Over 400 workers Demand they be paid all entitlements as regards their sudden disengagement and immediate reversal of debits on affected accounts.

Disengaged Workers through ForthRight Chambers have written to the bank and we exclusively have a copy of the letter.

is either that man uzoma dozie is a wicked man or diamond bank is distress. forget the occasional crowd. intercontinental bank was like that. many non performing loans given out to their lovers and family members. They don't even have correct record, remember the case of Abike Dabiri. what is happening in this country. Thieves and oppressors everywhere. God help us

If the bank lays you off for non-performance, then they should approach the Industrial Court to adjudicate on the matter. Once not stated in their sack letter that they were sacked for economic reasons, then no severance payable.

They can seek for the court to rule on their dismissal and if proven to be wrong, I believe the mandatory 2-months in lieu will be paid.

But if the bank has evidences that they were sacked for poor performance or proven misconduct..then they will not be liable to pay those specific workers

why are u talking like this if you are among those sacked or your relative is there you won't be talking the way you are talking. how can a bank sack people and start debiting their accounts and cannot pay severance while ecobank were paying millions to their people. Abeg all dis top ogas in banks are greedy ppl. they will be chopping millions and be dashing diamond friends and church members money in the name of loans, putting ppls money in danger later they will say it's non performing loans. if you want to sack ppl, you shld as well have money for severance package. Ecobank that paid their retrenched staff are they fools? you won't bother yourself with it because you are not involved.

Too bad, labour union in Nigeria is dead. Empty threats everytime. I think its time, workers stood their ground to make sure they are not cheated
