In an effort to sway the judgment of the Appeal Court to their favour, the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu and his opponent Dr. Uche Ogah are alleged to be lobbying the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), with the promise to defect to the party should the ruling favour them.

This was revealed by an aide to the APC National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun.

The aide, who pleaded anonymity, explained that Ikpeazu and Ogah laying claim as governor of Abia State are using proxies to lobby the APC leaders.

Ikpeazu and Ogah are in the Appeal Court over who is the legitimate governor of Abia State, as the duo are both holding Certificates of Return (CoR) issued to them by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Okezie Ikpeazu was declared winner of the governorship election conduct last year and was subsequently sworn in after receiving the CoR from INEC.

But an Abuja High Court ruling, delivered early this month, declared that the governor was not properly elected  by his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as he did not meet the guidelines of the party as regards payment of taxes.
