Just in: British and Italian envoys pay IGP courtesy visit.
– The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris hosted Paul Arkwright, British High Commissioner to Nigeria and Fulvio Rustico, Italian Ambassador to Nigeria in Abuja
– The Ambassador informed the IGP of the willingness of his government to partner with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF)
– The IGP said that he was confident that the visit would open avenues for more of such opportunities
Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris
The British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Paul Arkwright on Friday, July 22, paid a courtesy call on the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris.
During the visit, the High Commissioner intimated the IGP of the Britain’s role as a major donor to the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and that his government will do more in the area of counter terrorism training for officers and men of the force.
Reacting to the High Commissioners remarks, the IGP expressed delight at the visit and acknowledged the fact that NPF personnel had in the past undergone series of training in Britain.

He further stated that he was confident that, the visit would open avenues for more of such opportunities.
The IGP also hosted , Fulvio Rustico, the Italian Ambassador to Nigeria. The Ambassador informed the IGP of the willingness of his government to partner with the NPF.
He also stated that there were plans on ground for heads of police from both countries to hold a bilateral meeting. He stated that his government had also concluded plans to train at least 20 officers and men of the NPF in counter terrorism.
The IGP in his response, commended the Italian government for rendering such invaluable assistances.

He assured the ambassador that such gestures will be immeasurable considering the current fight against terrorism and further recounted how he had witnessed first-hand, the high standards maintained by the Italian government as regards training of her security personnel, while he was working with the United Nations (UN).
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Kpotum Idris, was on June 21 appointed as the acting Inspector General of Police by President Muhammadu Buhari.
He succeeded Solomon Arase who retired today after 35 years in service.
