Accident do happen and mostly a times, they are unplanned. Your safety in a foreign nation might be a thing of concern more especially to your guidance. But knowing what to do and what not to do in the face of danger will no doubt be a rewarding experience.

The conventional step of staying safe is first getting familiar with your new environment yet, many students prefer staying indoors and whenever they come out, see themselves in a forbidden strange land.

The street

This is where eighty percent of the world crimes takes place and you, should be weary of it. Asking other students, campus security, your program director, or the international student officer for local safety information is something you must do. It helps to prepare you ahead whenever an ugly situation springs itself.

Avoid traveling alone at night especially on a lonely lane, it could be dangerous and finding out

which area of your town is safe and unsafe is also a measure you must take.

Pickpockets are on the street looking for potential victims. Places like a crowded elevator, market place, festival etc. Are usually their operative domain. Be careful. In other to avoid encountering these jobless individuals, try and appear purposeful even when you are lost and whenever you feel the need to use the map, do that discreetly.

Safety on public transport

You might not have access to your personal car as an international student but depend on your two legs or public transport to get to places you want. In that case, you need to watch your belongings while on a public transport. Making sure your compartment is well locked while in a train is a must do to avoid tales of moonlight.

Avoid accepting things from a stranger no matter what. Once heard a story about a tourist who got robbed and ransacked after accepting a drugged drink from a stranger in a train.

In some scenarios, you might encounter them alone of a lane, or perhaps in your own apartment. When that happens, don’t ever try to fight back rather give them everything they want. Your life worth more. Even if your passport got lost or stolen, it can always be replaced.
