The measure can work in both ways.

Make the girl either emotionally detached, rebellious and withdrawn socially or serve as a reminder of what disgrace pre-marital sex offers and hence abstain from it in every form until married.

She may even look bad now, but when she has a daughter of her own, may bless the dad for what he did to straighten her up.
