Made us all believe that LUTH referred them to a U.S hospital, quoted price of 30k, when no U.S hospital has seen d file or agreed to take the case. When one tells lies, the whole thing becomes suspect. Now LUth is confirming that it is a lie, no referral was made and yet some people choose to blame LUTH? Seriously? please if you need clarification on something, say so, instead of jumping into wrong conclusions. The truth is Mayowa is a Sickle Cell Disease patient, and has been managed at LUTH for a long time. The hospital cannot start divulging that info now, can they?

With due respect "LUTH is not a doctor" is a very irresponsible statement. Luth is a hospital and as such is bound by the same professional obligations as it's doctors. In saner climes the hospital would be preparing for a medical malpractice suit.

For your information, the disclosure of the girl's diagnosis should be left to her to reveal. The fact that they revealed less than what they have doesn't give them the right to release anything. Whatever gives them the impression that they can decide to weigh in on their interests over a patient's interests is from the pit of hell.

1. Her family wants the best treatment for her.
2. They need to fly her abroad instead of keeping her at luth which we all know have a reputation for misdiagnosis and given wrong treatment to patients.
3. They can't afford it and ask membersof the public for help.
4. Help comes and the amount exceeds the amount needed.
5. Luth says they didn't refer her to any other hospital and the family admits that decision to fly her out was solely their decision.

Lets get a few things straight, LUTH did not break any confidentiality as far as this case is concerned. Medical information is no longer confidential once it is in public domain as in this case. You should note that they did not reveal the information for which they know her for as that was not already in the public domain particularly if made public by the patient or her agents. This can be described as "implied consent" . This is more so as LUTH was linked in the story.

There may have been a scam but then again they were just being emotional. They may have embellished the story so as to get funds to take her abroad , then again they may have done so simply to get as much money as possible from her illness in the short time she has in this world.

If she does have an abdominal malignancy as the chaps in LUTH highly suspected, no hospital in this world would give her the treatment to survive at this stage in her disease. At most it would buy her a few months.

It may be that I feel this way because it is not me but I hope and pray that when death comes to me, I would be brave enough to tell my doctors and my family to let me go home , sort out my affairs and die peacefully . Doctors are not and should not play God.
