– The Nigerian government on Friday, July 29, summoned the charge d’ Affairs of the Embassy of Republic of Indonesia

– The federal government appealed to Indonesia to have mercy on the remaining drug traffickers yet to be executed


Execution

The Nigerian government has again appealed to Indonesia not to commute the execution sentence of the remaining Nigerians held for drug trafficking.

The ministry of foreign affairs on Friday, July 29, made the appeal when it summoned the charge d’ Affairs of the Embassy of Republic of Indonesia.

The ministry in a statement said that although three Nigerians have already been executed, the Nigerian government are still appealing for a clemency for the remaining drug traffickers.

“Though three of them have since been executed, we are still pleading on behalf of the remaining three,” the statement said.

Three Nigerian – including Michael Igwe – were on Thursday, July 28, executed by the Indonesian government for drug trafficking offences.

Since their execution, the global community has been overwhelmed with condemnations on the decision of the Indonesian government

They were all killed by firing squad after being convicted of the crimes.

Indonesian officials as many as 14 people were originally set to face the firing squad but were left out because the government needed to be sure and avoid mistakes.

The country’s attorney general Muhammad Prasetyo said a date for the next execution is yet to be fixed.
