It happens to me too most especially if I use rainfall water to bath , in most cases I use hot water and I don't use towel to clean after bathing because the itching mostly happen when you use towel after batting, the towel will open tiny opening in your body or skin thereby causing a severe itching' but my case don't happen all the time now but before I suffered it continuously for 15years before it subside now. It happens mildly to me now. I enquired and was told that it is blood related meaning it is caused by our type of blood. 1 Like |

Happens to me. Stopped bathing with sponge and it reduced it drastically. Only take my bath with sponge once in two week on a weekend when I am not going out and ready to scratch my body 1 Like |

Keep away from sponge for now. And if you must use one, go for very soft synthetic sponge instead of the local organic and abrasive ones. In short, keep away from sponge for sometime. Whenever you take your bath, ensure your towel is clean and SUN-DRIED. Finally, use hot water and move into the sun or a warm environment immediately after bath. This is what I did to put a stop to the torture. Oversensitive skin is the problem. 1 Like |

Mbkite: Happens to me to, I used to think it is dirty towels, but I still scratched when I got new towels, sponge and soap, I don't know what it is but I am happy I am not alone, and yes, like one commenter said I don't scratch when I use hot water, I used hot water today and I don't remember scratching, that might be a solution, I will try it more and see if that works. |

Aqua Pruritius is the name of the condition, and it is hereditary. it is usually triggered by change in condition of bath or environment, like change of type of water (maybe from borehole water to tap water) or change in the type of soap. the only solution is to stop using sponge entirely except you are ready to scratch, mine takes up to 30 minutes of itching after bath. also wearing rough fabric like jeans immediately after bath also helps and it reduces the itching. when the rough fabric makes contact with the skin, it eases the itching. |

donjahsy:It doesn't Thing is, I've never experienced it myself but I knew someone in my hostel who did and it was what I saw as cure for her that I prescribed here . It's expected to work except if it is an infection in other cases. I also think by virtue of age, that it can also be a psychological problem. How you feel about the bathroom or towel used, may cause itching after bathing. See a doctor. That's all. *Singing * I'm not a certified physician (she want make I give am injection) so I cannot diagnose. |

I have suffered this itching problem before but it stopped when some certain precaution is been done. Forget about professional or hospital to look for the cure they will just be writing drugs for u or add more problem for you. Many people here have giving you a good and simple suggestion but you might think is too cheap. What are they? Don't use sponge again and stop using medicated soap. The only best soap for you is toilet soap like eva and other simple soap or just bath without soap with Warm water. Secondly don't dry ur body after bathing as irritation may persist. But this one may not be often.if you ahve opportunity to get a better agbo or agunmun from traditional drugs it will be better than taking oyinbo drug for it. Yoruba call it inanrun. |

Mightyraw:I'm glad you found cure for yours already. But don't stop using sponge entirely o! I can't imagine one not having to use sponge at all! No way! Get a small napkin/towel as substitute for sponge. They are very soft and tender on the skin. You fit even cut foam use Anything to ensure you wash yourself clean please. One last advice, since you know it's the water, how about you boil your water before use? It may also work perfectly. |

Favourednwa: I HAVE PERSONALLY HAD THIS ISSUE FROM BIRTH. This is however my technique for managing it: (note: it might be 2 core factors: skin type and water; your dermis might not have enough oils to combat the harsh effects of alkaline soap due to dry skin and maybe more open pores ;,so the chemicals have itching effects on your skin. Secondly, extremely alkaline or acidic water pH might be a reason.) Solution: 1.Dissolve substantial powdery alum in hot water(not boiling; so as not to destroy its chemical contents). 2. Use hot water to bath. Ensure you add the dissolve alum to your mixed bathing hot water and lukewarm water. 3. Take your bath. It has worked for me, it might work for you. Also you might need to visit a dermatologist; it could be signs of an hidden infection(I will go when I am less busy myself) Hope it helps. [Also, I don't use either sponge or medicated soap: the sponge , I suspect, opens my skin pores (I have dry skin), the medicated soaps are too alkaline and cause irritation on my dermis...I think.] |

It also happened to me due to rain water and the environment. During this time i couldn't bath for 7days becos mine was so severe. I visited the doctor but the scratching still persisted it was until I changed my water and some other things that it stopped. Don't worry you just try to get the source(s), nail it and the rest will be history. |
