Run a saloon, employ a professional to do the work for you and also learn how to barb from him. And you yourself will soon become a professional barber. My piece of advice though.

Learning form your worker.. No one will see u as the boss.

Op if u don't acquire the skill b4 venturing into it u might be at loss cus your customer would not be able to rely on you.

Lol ok thanks. For the record I'll be hiring barbers to do the work while I supervise, cos I don't barb. Please is that a good strategy? I'm just scared of the best choice of biz to go into. And a supermarket sells our daily foods we need to survive, and ofcourse should bring daily income so am kinda perplexed, cos this is gonna be my source of livelihood while I grow. Thanks
Since you don't "barb", it will be difficult for you to monitor your boys effectively. It would have been a better idea if you know how to barb, then you can employ one or two boys to be with you. Generally speaking, it is a lucrative enterprise putting location into consideration.

I don't know if the op is still viewing posts.
Details, guy-
Location, other capital assets, your primary job or how much free time you have available.
Now.
Most people are only talking about their personal experience in a nice salon or store.
I cut my own hair. I cut my dad's hair. As more people suffer the economic downturn, salons will be seen as icing, not the cake.
Ask those 500k npower applicants if they'll be spending 2k a month on a haircut, out of the alleged 23k salary. And then how much they expect to spend on food.
So since EVERYBODY MUST EAT. And since the govt plans to start feeding school kids from september, wish kweshun you stil dey find ansa for?

Make a detailed business plan of both plans, analyse the plans and choose the more viable between the two.

you need to know how to berb too, because the berber you hire can Bleep you up anytime especially if he he knows that you can,t berb.its has happen to me. Create time to learn the trade before you start. The location also matter. You can hire space for your berber, he will be the one paying you on weekly bases instead of strugling to pay him monthly, without signifycant income.
Re: A Medium Sized Supermarket Or A Standard Men's Salon? My Budget Is 1M by olugrayc(f): 12:59pm On Aug 10, 2016
I would suggest a salon with a functional CCTV. The profit on provisions is really small.sometimes just one naira to 2naira and you don't want to eat all your profit.you also wuld want to save. There is alos the issue of expiry dates on products.Malls like shoprite record huge profit because they are direct retailers and also have large turnover because of the crowd.so,except yu would be getting your goods from the producer, stick with the salon and learn barbing yourself. God increases you on every side. Shalom

Have u considered building materials like cement and rods? Very easy to control with a salesgirl. Keeping record of stocks in out of ur shop is easy and simple, u can integrate sanitary wares or tiles. All u need do is add shop rantage to ur 1m and u are good to go. Forget fancy biz and get involve in Wht will ofer u quick return.

Why not set up two businesses that are related with that amount of capital you have at hand. The environment would help you make up ur mind which businesses to consider e.g modern car wash and food biz or supermarket can go hand in hand, barber shop and men things and accessories, etc

okay my friend owns a salon he makes nothing less than 3k daily (minimum) 3000*30=90000 or more depending on the service

so I think salon is best

when I visited my aunt in lekki I escorted my bro to barb his hair and they called 500N for barbing teenager oooooo! I wonder how much was for men

so I think location matters too

and since u can't barb its either u learn it within 3months and also look for some1 trust worthy

I think there is serious money there

PS look for a busy location esp (Main road)

Op you don't have to do either. if you are in lagos invest in keke business. buy 2 kekes and give out on l higher purchase. once they pay off, rinse and repeat .

But if you must do either, go for the barber shop. Learn how to barb so you can work together with whoever you want to employ even if its for a bit so you get a hang of the business.

1 million? Open up a big salon, hire three good barbers and tell each one to pay you 6k weekly, thats 18k in a week and about 72k in a month, dont be greedy, whatever they make out for themselves in a month is non of your business as long as u getting ur 18kweekly,a standard salon wont cost u up to 500k, tho i also have my personal business idea where i can be able to generate 10-15k daily, the budget is 1m but sadly i dont have the CAPITAL to implement it. whatever choice u make best of luck bro.

CCTV can't work they can still manipulate the CCTV since Nigeria doesn't have constant power so its better he learns the trade and monitor the shii himself

I did a minisupermaket with same amount in January, store still looks like there's nothing in it. also daily return is not what I anticipated. thought I would make an average 50k sales weekly, not so and am on a road in a good location. competition is also much in that line. since I have taken this road, if I have a million to invest again i'd try the salon.
How busy is your road, and in what state are you?

Jeffcheddy good afternoon.. Please before you go into a salon business consider this
. Can you u barb
Will you stay with your employees
Do you know the right equipment and other stuff needed .
. What area ur salon need to be located etc

I won't be able to explain much because am very tired

If you are not experienced in the salon business please is a no go area.. U ve a Barber u personally love that cut for you right now.. If he's not around and another person in the same shop says lemme help you u quickly say no...

If you wants to go into the Salon business u learn from ur employees how to barb also immediately u loose a employee u loose 50 customers and if he is to get his shop around u r loosing the customers that you gathered literally each customer belong to a employee.... I don't know if you are getting my explanation.. Lemme stop here for now....

It's a common trend all over Lagos.

Most of these barbers and stylist just need space, which any smart entrepreneur can provide.

The same model is used in the Movie: The barbers shop 3

I would consider this in future though but location is key for this kind of venture.

Barbing salon, pay your barbers on commision. If u have enough space outside create a cash wash to complement it. You can also run the car wash on commision, start small and grow

There are saloons I have been to under stroict monitoring.. Let us say the cut ones hair would cost 500naira... 300naira wud go to the owner, 200 naira for the barber.. That's what I have studied so far..
