How To Treat Victims Of Electric Shock And Burns by luckyjojo: 1:43am On Aug 18, 2016
Electricity is hazardous. Many people have
suffered from electric shock and burns from
using electricity. To respond to a victim of
electric shock some procedure must be taken
to ensure the safety of the victim and to
save the responder from electrocution. This
procedure should be followed in responding
to a victim of a low-voltage electric shock:
(1) First on seeing a victim of electrical
shock, raise the alarm by calling for the
help of others. Also call the nearest first
aider.
(2) Switch Off power if you can. This stops
further shock and Burns.
(3) Call for an ambulance or medical
support.
(4) If you could not switch off the electric
power. Take the victim away from the
conductor using a non-conducting material,
such as wooden object. this is to save you
from electrocution.
(5) Do not approach the area on bare feet
or on wet foot wear. That is, ensure you
stand on insulating material. This is to avoid
electrocution.
(6) Place the person in a recovery position
if the person is breathing. This is to ensure
that the airway is open.
(7) If the person is not breathing, apply
mouth to mouth resuscitation. If there is no
pulse, Start chest compression and when
breathing resumes, place the person in
recovery position.
(coolIf there are Burns treat it by placing a
sterile dressing over it and secure with a
bandage. Note, do not apply any ointment
or lotion on the burn and do not touch
any loose skin or blister.
(9) When the person regains consciousness,
treat for normal shock.
