Navy Launches 39 Boats That Could Access The Hideouts Of Militants

On Wednesday, 17th of August, a launch was organized which was held at the Nigerian Navy Dockyard, Victoria Island, Lagos.

In the launch, Mohammad Dan-Ali, the Minister of Defence , noted that the procurement of the boats came at a better time, following the emerging security challenges in the country, especially in the Niger Delta region, which he said had great consequences on the polity.

Out of the newly procured boats, 30 Espenal boats, were constructed locally while nine others, Wave Rider/Arrow boats were acquired from Sri Lanka.

Danjuma Sheni, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, representing the minister said “These challenges have continued to demand a great deal of human and material resources to surmount, which in the light of dwindling revenue would be sustainable only with generous innovations and incorporation of home grown solutions”.

He commended the Navy for rising to the challenges, following its decision to look inward and contracted local ship vendors for the provision of platforms that would help in tackling the challenges.

He recalled that an earlier local construction of 30 Epenal boats which were used by the Navy to patrol the Niger Delta area, informed the decision to construct additional 50 boats.

He added that out of the 50, 30 were launched yesterday, Wednesday, August 17th with the rest to be delivered soon.

However, in an earlier news, the Nigerian Airforce(NAF), resumed the aerial bombing of hideouts of the vandals in the Ogun state axis of Arepo.

The operation commenced with the Augusta Helicopter which struck some vandal’s locations.
