IF CHIEF OJO MADUEKWE WOULD ATTEND HIS OWN FUNERAL TODAY.

Today, in the hilltop "Ultimate Real Estate" located at "Ugwu abaa" in Asaga Ohafia, Abia State of Nigeria, there will be a committal of the remains of one of the most influential and re- occurring political figures in Nigeria since the return of Democracy in 1999, Elder Chief Ojo Uma Maduekwe (CFR) who died on 29th June, 2016 at the age of 71.

If by chance Ojo happens or get permitted by the forces that hold the universe to attend his own funeral, he will be shocked to listen to the most wonderful sermon of his life to be preached by one of the very best clergies in the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria. The homily will be so beautifully presented that Ojo may not see need for repentance if he were to be alive. Yes, people become saints when they die. I trust church folks.

Ojo will be convinced that most of the eulogies or encomiums (encomia) to be poured out on him are mere lip service and just to say good about the dead. He will be so amazed that he will begin to wonder if they are meant for him or another incarnate of Ojo Maduekwe. Because now on the other side of life, he can see clearly his deeds and know which is true or false.

Ojo will be sad to realize that there will be unprecedented crowd to attend his funeral more than he has ever had in all the political campaigns he organized during the few times he contested for elections in Abia state (perharps old Imo state). If he has ever had this kind of crowd, he would have been winning elections.

It will be clear to Ojo during his funeral today that all the big shots and "who is who" who were either his friends, associates or beneficiaries that will attend his funeral will be mainly outsiders(from the north and west) with very few from Ohafia or perhaps Igbo land. Yes, Ojo never believed in "Akpazia politics"- helping those around you when elected or appointed for a position. And he made sure he never compromised his stand.

In what will be typical of him if he were to be alive, Ojo will be heart broken when his political party, PDP that he lived and died for, will turn his funeral into political rally to celebrate the victory of Okezie Ikpeazu at the Appeal Court over his removal for tax clearance forgery and to make fake promises as usual thinking that they are in campaign ground. In fact, what will be more deserving to a man who played politics all his life if not to play politics on his funeral day.

Ojo will be ashamed to hear his visitors talk in clusters that Abia state has the worst roads and infrastructures in Nigeria, save for the exotic and exquisite private own houses and community built public utilities you can find in Ohafia and Abiriba. He will not wish they ply Arochukwu -Ohafia road or other roads that are in utmost bad shape. They will ask, what did he do as close ally to former Presidents and Governors to attract development to his state or community.

Finally, if Ojo would be in his funeral, it will pain him to know that ohafia people are not mourning his demise. In all the twenty- six villages that make up ohafia community coupled with Abiriba and Nkporo that make up Ohafia LGA, it will be business as usual today. People shall go about their normal businesses. Only very few ones will be at Asaga to feed their eyes or stomach if they are lucky to gain access. To ohafia people,Ojo Maduekwe died long ago when he served in various capacities since 1999 without significant impact on his people.

Rest in Peace Chief. There's no doubt you were a very intelligent and an astute politician who remained relevant till death. Lerua anya! Abali chowo gi!
