.*TO THE PRESIDENT OF FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA- PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI*
*A Petition of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta(FUNAAB) Community draws the attention of President Muhammadu Buhari to the circumstances of the cases to be stated below:*
*#1:* *Poor Security And Attacks On FUNAAB Students*
The multifaceted problems of FUNAAB students arose from two main causes. The first was the wrong foot taken by the Vice Chancellor- Professor Olusola Bandele Oyelowo at the early stage of this robbery cases, which later led to students being stabbed and millions worth of properties being carted away. The general notion by the Vice Chancellor that, there is nothing the management can do to students living off campus, which the proof of it was the statement issued by the CSO of FUNAAB, the day the uproar that led to the arrest of FUNAAB students; pitiful students, exercising their right of a peaceful protest. The CSO said, the security of students off campus is not their duty.
Meanwhile, this blew up the anger in students, having lost several belongings to this black mask men; armed robbers, making them exercise a peaceful protest that led to their arrest.
Second, the Nigeria Police Force employing chicanery, strategies and unfair practice to further parochial and sectional interest; arresting students exercising their right of peaceful protest, after several attempts reaching the force to secure our lives and properties proved abortive. It was in the same vein that, these students were charged to court and asked to pay over #100,000 to secure their bail.
Mr President sir, it is undeniable that, human right position of our founding fathers of Nigeria has been blatantly breached. In view of this sir, we the entire students of FUNAAB seek your indulgence to provide us with adequate security and look into the matter of students arrested with holistic view.
*#2:* *Bad Management Response To Students Wellbeing*
It is so unfortunate and disgraceful that human rights violation took deep root in FUNAAB. Starting from robbery, raping and stabbing of our fellow students by hoodlums; armed robbers who took the pride of a place called FUNAAB environs. In this connection, the views expressed by the management of the school saying “there is nothing they can do about it” would not be quite apposite. As the management cannot provide accommodation for over 15,000 students in the school.
In view of this sir, we the entire students of Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State would like you to call the school management to order, and enforce them to provide adequate security to great students of FUNAAB.
*A petition of Mayowa I. Osindero*
*Agreed upon by:*
*The Students of Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta(FUNAAB) Community*
