Benin — Edo state chairman of the Coalition of Registered Political Parties (CRPP) Dr. Samson Isibor was yesterday arrested by the men of Edo state police command over alleged defamatory statements against the state governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.

The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) arrested him at the premises of the state high Court on Sapele road where he was moved to the state police command, Benin city, Edo state

Dr. Isibor was said to have been interrogated for several hours by a five-man team of the anti-vice unit of the State Criminal Investigative Department (SCID).

In a petition from the office of the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Isibor was said to have between March 23 and 29, 2009 allegedly made some defamatory statements in one of the dailies which portrayed Oshiomhole in bad light .

Dr. Isibor made statements to the men of the anti-vice unit of the criminal investigation outfit at about 1. 45 pm.

As at the time of filling this report, a team of lawyers were making arrangement for his release.

The Edo State police image maker, A.S.P Mr. Peter Ogboi said he was not aware of the incident and that the case had not been brought to his attention

If this was how Oshiom Ole was harrassed and persecuted by the OBJ regime, he would have died in jail by now.

Unlike you, I am not one of Oshiom Ole's thugs - I make a honest leaving in the private sector.
When your boss starts being accountable to the good people of Edo state, rather than terrorising them with his thugs, I will layoff - and even hail him like I do Fashola.

The state is not better off than when he was sponsored in by one of the worse known crooked govs in the history of Edo state. Rather than making this a discourse of hot air and untruths about the performance of your boss, go tell him that the electorates are aware of his shady deals and misappriations. He will be out come next election, if he thinks he can fool the good folks of the state again

Oshiomhole of all people should not be trying to silence the opposition, he benefitted from opposition, and he should nurture opposition. I'll be very disappointed if this turns out out to be true story.

How can you discredit a non-credit – this guy can not run the state from Abuja or the US, whilst the law-abiding citizens of the state are under siege by miscreants.
Maybe I am trying to discredit increased kidnapping, robbery, joblessness, and thuggery.

Edo is not my state of origin, but I have relatives that have lived there all their lives - this' the worse they've been through in the decades they've lived in Benin.

Why has he not employed the services of some joint task force to police the city - maybe the law-abiding citizens of the state will feel a bit safe.

I really don’t understand why some people don’t feel the governors are responsible for the wellbeing of their citizens. Everyday you read the newspapers, there’s somebody kidnapped in Edo state, and the governor is completely devoid of any responsibility for providing a safe state for the citizens.

Oshiomole will be a big time failure in 2010 election.

We’re not funded by PDP – CRPP

BENIN—The Coalition of Registered Political Parties (CRPP) in Edo State has denied allegation by the state government that it was being funded by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Dr. Samson Isibor, the coalition stressed that the CRPP was made up of 25 registered political parties in the state and not an appendage of the PDP or the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) as alleged in an interview by the state Commissioner for Information and Orientation last weekend.

The coalition asserted that it would not be intimidated irrespective of the allegations made against it.

It would be recalled that the Chairman of the CRPP, Dr. Isibor, was arrested last week by the police in Benin for alleged defamatory statements against Governor Adams Oshiomhole.

Consequently, the PDP in the state and the CRPP accused the state government of muzzling the opposition.

But reacting swiftly, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Osagie Obayuwana, said that the allegation that the state government was muzzling the opposition was an attempt to distort the facts, explaining that Isibor was arrested because he alleged that the governor recruited cultists into his cabinet was, therefore, arrested tom prove his allegation.

However, Isibor stated that “the CRPP is made up of state chairmen and secretaries of about 25 political parties registered in Edo state.

“These CRPP chairmen can never be bought over by any group or individual. The CRPP will not relent to criticize this administration constructively, so the insinuation that the body is being sponsored by the PDP is just another propaganda against the good intentions of this body by the state government. But we will resist any attempt by any body to cow us”.
