Any thing that aids mass scale production of either clothing, shelter, food, transportation, education or power component is always a welcome developement. With this Nigeria should stop losing precious capital and forex to importers. These are the things that diversify the economy. Let all state govt follow this pattern and we will start earning more forex than oil can earn us in no time. 13 Likes 2 Shares |

Growing cotton is not the only thing, I hope there is a corresponding industry or company that can optimize the usage of the produced cotton. This MOU is not commendable without a corresponding company that will process the produced cotton. Exporting cotton to Europe and Asia and importing finished textile back is stupidity. Africa should start processing her raw materials into finished good by herself. Or else, we will forever be at the losing end of the world equation. Generally, SW should leave this mundane level of Agriculture and focused more on processing of the agricultural products. It is more beneficial, creates more job and more rewarding. 8 Likes 2 Shares |

Next thing should be BRANDING. This is what is done in India and China. Foreign companies should come in, ensure the standards are right, and then brand the items with all the foreign names we crave. 1 Like |

Wow.. this is good news. I am very happy This economic debacle is making us to unveil our virgin brains. But we shouldn't stop at cotton production cos this is only a low-value industry. I must not hear that we are exporting cotton now Ooo. The value chain is so long that if we stop at just growing, harvesting and selling cotton, we are only short-changing ourselves. We should resuscitate our textile factories. We should attract foreign investors too and if they don't come, no need to panic. We will eventually get there. Kudos to the thinking and working governors. 2 Likes |

This is a laudable move by the state governor. Its surely a way to go and with persistence and determination, we will get there. Let other state follow suit in this and let these be extended to other crops of commercial viability. God bless Nigeria. |

Sibrah: My brother I tire for this country, our leaders re selfish, pathetic, and silly,no idea,no creativity no dream,a nations that cannot feed itself is not a serious one, each time I walk outside and sees people with frustrations faces I only weep. It is only in nigeria u leave out your good sectors that can generate good cash and focus solely on oil,no nation jokes with the following sectors,Agriculture,Transportations,Manufacturing, small medium enterprises and Information technology, but here we re not a serious nations,Nigeria is the only country that will leaves his transportations in the hand of hungry-Angry un serious and cultured hand, for Nigeria to be better all our olds heads needs to give way,the ones that annoyed me most is our higher institutions, these ones are corrupt, pathetic, silly and idiocy runs in them smh |

SuperS1Panther: So they should leave d raw material & first focus on the industrialization of the raw material. So if they build processing plants first, they will now import cotton There are already textile ginning plants in d north. They all closed up cos there's no more cotton. They import everything. And more dollars is needed to import d cotton. It can't work wtout d raw material. Dts why Michelin eventually left Nigeria for Ghana. Why would I process rubber into other products when there's no more rubber in d country? Ur talking about leaving "d mundane level of agriculture" for finished goods. They obviously go hand in hand. Maybe you should check the largest exporters of cotton, timber, oranges, oats etc.etc in d world. You would see the USA as top 5 exporter in almost every agricultural list. U don't throw d baby away wt d bath water cos ur chasing industrialization. 2 Likes |

eduj: Are u surprised the same way the drill crude oil and export it to be refined, african leaders generally don't believe they can make things happen, that's why unemployment will always be high,80percent of raw material in production of paint is imported, and this 80percent is gotten from crude oil,so u start to wonder, what is wrong with african leaders mindset |
Re: Ogun Signs Mou On Cotton Production! by bayulll011(m): 10:53am On Aug 25, 2016 |
janellemonae: You re both saying the same thing,he's focusing on the industrialization aspect, growing cotton is good, focus on the finished product is also good,we don't want to av large chunk of cotton then latter no step to convert it to finished product,we don't wanna end up like the oil industries where majority of our oil use is imported |
