The Abia State government has ordered the immediate relocation of Facilities of Law and Humanities to Umuahia while Faculty of Engineering will be relocated to Aba immediately the permanent is ready. The Comm for lnformation and Strategy of Abia State, Comm Bonny Iwuoha disclosed this as part of EXCO resolution in Umuahia. Also EXCO approved the reduction of ten thousand naira from the school fees of Abia indigenes studying in ABSU on the condition that the student must present tax receipt of their Parents or Guardian followed with a biometrics.

What form of subsidy do we call this conditional reduction of fees? Educational subsidy or Tax rebate? Government of Abia State should find a way to consider and accommodate rural women and widows struggling to see their children through the university education in this scheme. I am sure 90% of these women don't pay tax, notwithstanding, they deserve conditional relief. |
