Real Madrid and Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo was named 2015-16 UEFA Best Player in Europe Award winner as announced in Monaco on Thursday 25 August, 2016.

Ronaldo tipped the scales for the Award beating two other nominees - club mate Gareth Bale and Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann both of whom made the final short list for the Award.

Takes over from Messi

Ronaldo bagged the award from nemesis Lionel Messi of Barcelona who never made the shortlist this time round reclaiming what he last won at the close of the 2013-14 season.

In the ended season, Ronaldo won the UEFA Champions League with Real Madrid and lately took home the Europa Championship with Portugal for the first time ever with a 1-0 against hosts France. Ronaldo however exited the final as early as the 25th minute following a knock.

The 31-year-old passed the 50-goal mark for the sixth consecutive season with Real Madrid. He was also the Champions League’s leading goal scorer with a record-equaling 16 goals.

Ada Hegerberg named 2015-16 UEFA Best (Women's) Player in Europe

In the Women's category, Norway's Ada Hegerberg of Olympique Lyonnais won the Women's award taking over from last seasons winner Célia Šaši? of Frankfurt.

Ada had made the shortlist alongside Frenchwoman Amandine Henry of Olympique Lyonnais/Portland Thorns FC and German Dzsenifer Marozsán of FFC Frankfurt/Olympique Lyonnais.
