For any rural community to develop and grow into mega urban centers, it is imperative that such communities are fully electrified. It is therefore not an understatement to state that the poverty that has ravaged and bedeviled our people in this part of the world is due to lack of sustainable electricity. 80% of Kogi state rural dwellers are without electricity.

Rural areas are often at a disadvantage in terms of access to electricity. Reasons being, the high cost of providing this service in low populated, remote places with difficult terrain and low consumption result in rural electricity schemes that are usually more costly to implement than urban schemes. In addition, low rural incomes can lead to problems of affordability; hence, the government of Kogi state decided that rural electrification is non negotiable, primary and therefore placed is top on its scale of preference with high premium.
To this end, various communities in the rural areas of the state have started benefiting from the governments rural electrification scheme. The commissioner for Rural Development of Kogi state, Hon Enema Paul has been moving from one benefiting community to the other, supervising distributions and installations of transformer, supplied by his ministry.

Benefiting communities are:
1. CBN Area 1 community electrification at zone 8
2. Transformer installations and connection to high tension lines, ongoing at Kogi State Hajj commission, Lokoja
3. Transformer distribution and connection to the following places
a. Otokiti estate
b. Army signal
c. RCCG region 24 areas of Lokoja
4. Inozi/Ageva Okene Rural electrification works and connection to national grid.
