From Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State, a 50-year-old man, identified as Chief Ekanem Edet, was found dangling from a rope tied to the roof of his room at Mbiabong Itam in Itu Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

Reports indicates that Ekanem Edet, was a former Secretary of the Mbiabong Village Council, popularly called Jolly Boy, he take his life after his wife and two sons went out and left a suicide note in which he blamed his action on the harsh economic situation.

A colleague of the deceased, Mr. Okon Effiong, told newsmen that Ekanem Edet was discovered dead by his friend, who went to visit him.

According to source from family member, Edet, in the suicide note, blamed government for inflicting pains and hardship on Nigerians.
The deceased was immediately buried after some traditional rites of passage were performed.

According to the source: “He was a very sociable man and always shared his thoughts on issues. I do not know why he should consider suicide as the last option to escape from these hard times.”

It was gathered that few days to his death, Edet, complained bitterly about the current economic hardship.

Edet, who deals on Ogogoro, cigarettes and other stimulants, decided to take his life when he could no longer run his small family with the little earnings from his trade, the source said.

A pastor at the local church said; “He used to complain that his small business no longer fetching him and his family basic needs such as food, clothing and fees for the children’s education.

Edet always blame government for the economic policies that do not allow him afford basic needs like yam,gari, bread, rice, oil, kerosene, beans and other essentials.

The pastor added that the family was reluctant to call in the police because of the suicide note.

He is a fool and deserves no pity, why should one take his own life and subject the children to the aftermath trauma because he cannot feed them? So who will feed them now or where will they get the money to bury him properly, he is simply a coward

Some times experiencing hard time make ones strong in all situation. Perhaps he was born with silver spoon.
