tollytexy: adioolayi: project8: Nairadays: Emeka71: Darus05: Nokia and Ericsson still exist. They are no longer the biggest mobile phone makers in the world (they were in the 1990s), but they still make telecommunications equipment for major telecoms service providers. Always funny to hear multinational companies breaking laws while operating in a country. The truth is they operated without a license because past governments allowed them. It's also an open secret international oil firms do the same and lobby the government to quell outcry from marginalized community citizens. Well, the new administration is looking for revenue to keep the economy afloat, defaulters have to pay up and sit tight. 2 Likes |

Most mobile phone manufacturers have bigger arms that manufacture telecoms equipment. That's what Nokia,Ericsson,Huawei and ZTE does. I'm ow already of Etisalat that uses both Nokia and Huawei equipment. |

naptu2:Nokia announced sometime last month they're planning to venture back into the phone market. Let's see if they can keep up after a short hiatus. It's already common knowledge they can't win back their former market share but it seems the company needs a final first-person confirmation their time is long gone. |

charix: I made that post in a hurry. Below is the modified version. Companies like Nokia, Ericsson and Siemens (especially Ericsson and Siemens) have worked in Nigeria for a long time, even before mobile phones were first introduced into the country in 1993. They also manufacture equipment like base stations, transmitters, exchanges, etc and they worked closely with Nitel in the 1980s and 1990s. Nokia and Ericsson still exist. They are no longer the biggest mobile phone makers in the world (they were in the 1990s), but they still make telecommunications equipment for major telecoms service providers. In fact, they are the biggest companies in the world in this segment of the market. 5 Likes |
