University of Pretoria was founded in 1908, University of Fort Hare was founded in 1916. Rhodes university (South Africa)-1904.

These universities will push UI and Legon beyond the first 10.

One of the oldest WESTERN STYLE BLACK UNIVERSITY in Africa. This opened doors for other non white universities of that time like UWC, Zululand Univesrity,WSU, UniVen etc...Most African leaders graduated from this university the first presidents after independence from Britain in east and southern Africa were from university.

The first BLACK MEDICAL DOCTOR in AFRICA was from S.A. and trained in Scotland, first black journalist in Africa was from here.
