Workers of Ajaokuta Steel Rolling Complex in Lokoja, Kogi state, on Thursday, thronged the major highways to protest the non-payment of their 12 months salary arrears.

According to report, yesterday’s demonstration was said to have been informed by an alleged insincerity of the workers’ leaders to their pligts. One of the workers, who spoke to the Nigerian Tribune on phone, said that the union officials had given them an inpression that the salary had been paid into their respective banks but only to discover later that nothing of such was done.

As a result of this, the workers mounted roadblocks in some of the major highways, forcing motorists to carry leaves as a sign of solidarity to their cause.

Police were said to have been drafted to the area to quel the peaceful demonstration.
