An uninformed journalist blundered and erroneously referred to the Emir of Kano, Mohammed Sanusi, as the "Emir of Nigeria" when he, along with other religious leaders and delegates from all over the world, was being introduced to His Holiness Pope Francis in the Italian city of Assisi.

Sanusi and other dignitaries, including the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Grand Duke of Luxembourg, were in the Italian city for an interfaith prayer conference originally initiated by the late Pope John-Paul II.
