The first gunshot was fired in Bekwarra. That kickstarted what became known as the Nigerian-Biafran civil war, which FIGURATIVELY ended in January 1970.Technically, it hasn't ended. The war rages on. Unabated. Igbos want out. Still. They sit at home today to press down their desire. In 1967, Ojukwu and co. decided to opt out of the Nigerian project. They didn't consult majority of the Igbos. The "boys" sat down and decided Igbos needed to move on. They planned to hit the leaders who were said to be sitting on things. A coup. They were social revolutionaries. Many notable Nigerians were annihilated in cold blood. Sad though. A counter coup was launched. The entire nation decided to take on the Igbos after the declaration of Biafra as a republic by the "boys" led by the vanguard Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu. For thirty months, innocent Igbos were killed, maimed and starved to death. Teenagers barely 15 and below were inducted unceremoniously, without adequate military tactical drilling to bear guns and defend a Biafraland. Many of the children soldiers never saw the end of that war. Over two million Igbo civilians were killed. Many families were displaced, roamed from one homestead to another, just to hide from mortar bombs and other explosives that wrecked their realities. In Asaba, many were lured and blankly exterminated in the guise of a truce -the most traumatic head shots ever. When they war ended with the last gunshot, a declaration of"no victor, no vanquished" was made. Igbos could only have twenty bucks of whatever they had in their bank accounts. They were expected to build up again on a paltry twenty bucks. The nepotism continued. It didn't end.The hate aggravated. The stigma won't go. The nomenclature is still associated with greed and desperation. The Nigerian government didn't find it reasonable to rebuild Igboland with the state's funds. It wasn't worthwhile. Igbos moved on despite. Fifty years later, a repeat happened in the North East. A group of men decided to opt out. They were religious revolutionaries. They hate westernization; in fact, it is abominable. They killed in large numbers, slaughtered Nigerians like goats and refused to have dialogue. They raped women or made away with them, and put the north east in disarray.Today, they have a chance to be forgiven by the same government that destroyed Kaduna Nzeogwu, Aguiyi Ironsi et al, for ever thinking to dare. The FG is ready to rebuild the north east with state funds. Nigeria mourns the Chibok girls, while many Biafran girls, taken away by Nigerian soldiers are still in the wild till this day.So ...The civil war hasn't ended.Let Igbos press their demands.Let Igbos make a collective statement.Let Igbos sit at home today. If no one knows, their voices are heard in places that matter. It is not over. Biafra of my dreams. My Biafra.
