Paulo Coelho is different.

Any book reader knows he's a mystic.

Ramon92:
All he cares about is that the message of his book gets to everyone, no matter the means; cares more about humanity than profit as Sylverbox has said; and respects the hustle of that hustler...

By the way, his book is still one of the very best I've read..

Op please take note piracy should not be encouraged in anyway, every man who sows is entitled to reap his harvest to the fullest. That being said I think he is able to say that because the young boy is far away from his major markets and those sales will not prevent him from getting his daily bread so he is free to think that way, piracy is a killer of creativity and has also killed many careers so tolerating it is not something you should ask anybody to emulate.

See? Difference instead of the usual selfishness he thought of the boy's welfare

See the way you comment likes dumb soul.

Do you know if he has made 100 times the money he spent in publishing the book?

Are you aware that most of those Nigerian actors actresses never make up to the cost of production not to talk of making profit?

Very empty and myopic entity.

Piracy is evil and should not be supported! Not necessarily about the author and what he wrote. Piracy kills creativity and innovation.

A man reached a hotel where he was invited for a wedding .
He found two doors, one written brides close relatives n friends; the other written grooms close relatives n friends.
He entered the grooms n found inside two other doors
One written for ladies only and the other gents only.
He entered the gents only and walked a few steps just to find 2doors
One written, those with gifts the other those without gifts.
Since he was among those who didn't carry anything; he entered,
ONLY TO FIND HIMSELF OUT ON THE STREET. grin grin grin

A Nollywood producer, would have ordered the arrest of even the seller
in China, both the seller, the Selleee and the sellest will die, and besides if there are no willing retailers then pirates will slow down besides many American authors are against piracy too.

Those aren't pirate copies, those are original versions which likely passed through the hands of a certified publisher. Real pirate versions are done using cheap printing on low quality paperbacks with features noticeable from a mile away.
