U.S Drone Base In Niger To Fight Terror Across Africa by iLiquidator: 10:06am On Sep 30, 2016
The US is investing at least $50m in a military air base in Niger that will be capable of deploying drones. The US already has a presence in the capital Niamey, where it shares an airbase with France's anti-Islamist force, Operation Barkhane . MQ-9 Reaper drones are stationed there. But the new facility, in the central city of Agadez, will give Washington greater ability to use drones against Islamist extremists in neighbouring countries like Libya, Mali and Nigeria. A spokeswoman for the Pentagon, Michelle Baldanza, confirmed the US had agreed to pay for a new runway and "associated pavements, facilities and infrastructure". She estimated the cost at $50m but The Intercept, which first reported the story, said it is projected to cost twice that. The investigative news site reports that it has obtained files that show the project is considered "the most important US military construction effort in Africa" and will be completed in 2017. Drones, also known as UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) or RPAs (Remotely Piloted Aircraft) are used by the military for surveillance and to drop bombs, in places where it is too risky or difficult to send a pilot.

Niger should be very technical in their dealings with the US.

US don't give freely.

They are doing this because Nigeria refused to allow them build a base here (Africom).
This drone base is for one thing and one thing only - Nigeria's oil.

Mscheww.
The US already has complete access to Nigerian oil. Infact, it is the US that is saying ''we no want again'' hence the oil price crash.
The US is a great country and has much bigger fish to fry than Nigeria.

The US wants to have a full military presence in Africa so that they have full control of the globe. The only place they don't have military men now is Russia.

When the US adopted isolation policy, world war 1 broke out. Not until it joined Allied forces late into the second world war that victory came to sight. So if you ask me, I'd say the US should continue to police the world as long as global security is sustained.

They should keep on being the global police while our people suffer for what they are doing? They should stop manufacturing weapons instead.

As US citezens I disagree with your interpretation of history and foreign policy. U.S involvement in WW2 turned sites but alot of leg work to defeat Germany was done by Soviets. We were pretty big part of the Japanese front. We took out WW2 Japanese with fire bombs and nukes.

The 2nd world war was cause by treaty of Versailles which bankrupted Germany. BTW modern day usa involvement in conflicts causes more harm then good. Look no further then Libya which caused spread of weapon that wound up in many countries like Nigerian terrorist BH.

USA does protect many countries but it's not really necessary. Nigeria can take care of itself besides usa funds many terrorist groups like ISIS if you pay attention. We simply use code words like moderate rebels.
