A friend told me the story of a man who had a revelation. In the revelation, he saw himself in his own burial ceremony, standing at the back of the hall, while the wife and children were sitting on the front row. Every one, to include his neighbours, colleagues at work, and even church members came out in turn to pay their tribute. A lot of good deeds were attributed to him, ranging from dexterity at work, to selfless service, and many more. But he noticed that when his immediate family were being called upon, they had virtually nothing to say about him. And right from the revelation, he felt the guilt that he had not been setting his priorities right.
Many atimes, we have the intention of working hard to earn good money to take care of our families, get to the peak of our career, be the best preacher in town, and later realise that these has eaten deep into our time and schedule, that we rarely have time to bond with our family. On some occasions, we are so much involved in spiritual exercise, that we deprive our spouse and children the needed attention. We work with so much dexterity in the office but rarely help our wife with household chores. Some of us are funny women /men in the office but a "lion"in the home; We accord respect to every one we meet on the street, but treat our spouse with contempt; generous in the church, but find it difficult to provide for the family; have a shock absorber for insults outside the home, but will dare not tolerate the slightest mistake from our spouse; we take time to hang out with friends but feel there's no need to hangout or spend quality time with our family..."at least you see each other everyday". Consequently, We realise that while our colleagues at work, church members or the society at large give us credit and thumbs up, our spouse or children's thumbs are down because we have no time for them or because we dont have good records with them. While It's good to work, and not a bad idea to be spiritually inclined to our creator, we need to know that our relationship with our family is something we dont have to toil with. Hence, we need to strike a balance.
We should ensure that we do not build our account or career at the expense of our home. At the end of the day, if we achieve all these, without a family to fall back on, its like we've achieved nothing at all. No matter how busy we are, we need to make time for our family. We need to invest in our family financially, emotionally, physically and spiritually. The impression we create in the life of our family last forever.
Do our spouse, children, or even sibblings thirst for our love, attention, time, support? Let's make out time to give it to them.

He didn't have a revelation.

That was his subconscious (and guilt) prickling him.
