Group under the auspices of Northern Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has called for voluntary resignation of Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele within the next 21 days or do something to put the nation’s economy on the right track.
They said though they were not economists but they are aware that economy of the country is in shambles with foreign exchange rate worst in recent times, calling on President Mohammadu Buhari to look for people with technical know-how to join him to fix the economy before it gets out of hand completely.
President, NYCN, Comrade Isah Abubakar in a statement on Wednesday noted that lack of economy and financial direction have increased poverty rate in recent times from 60 per cent to 75 per cent with attendant consequences that have increased number of impoverished Nigerians to about 120 million.
The statement read in part: “after watching with keen interest the present economic hardship in the country, we are saying no thanks to CBN Governor who has not been able to come up with any plan that can take us out of the wood as head of our financial body, we at NYCN while supporting the administration of President Mohammadu Buhari are saying we are not happy with his economy team hence the need to look inward for better hands.
“We now pay as high as about N500 to a dollar. This has brought serious hunger and hardship on our people because most of what we eat are imported and are been affected by high foreign exchange. Inflation has increased from 7 percent in 2013 to 17 percent in quota 4 of 2015 and quota 3 of 2016 which bothers the CBN Governor and Finance Minister, Funke Adeosun agreed to the fact that economy is in trouble.
“Unemployment is another problem as it has soared to 24 percent at a period when millions of beverages, tobacco, banks and hospitality sector workers have been added to already saturated Labour market. Small and medium scale enterprises that were coming up are folding up as they can not bear the exchange rate that has sky rocketed beyond their reach.
“This has show total failure of the CBN governor and he has proved his total incompetence to manage Nigeria economy. It is to this regard we demand for his resignation as the CBN governor and urged Mr President to appoint a competent hand not minding where he comes from, his ethnicity, or religion background. We only need someone with sound economics nitty-gritty who can manage our delicate economy. This is because we demand nothing but a better Nigeria.
“Failure of the CBN governor to voluntarily resign or put the economy in the right track within the 21-day of this ultimatum, NYCN will be forced to organize and mobilize mass protests in front of the CBN headquarters in Abuja”
, the statement added.
The statement however called on All Progressives Congress (APC) led government at various levels to stop playing blame games and work for people that elected them into varying offices they are occupying, noting that they were voted in to effect positive change the country needed and not to keep complaining.
“We know we are not broke. It’s just that only few cabal and multi national companies are holding it. The time to work is now”.

So CBN governor don start to dey coordinate the economy baa? I believe the president should replace the current minister of economy. CBN gov needs a focused and sound economic planners from executive (presidency). The presidency should bring policies and programs to aid the CBN else we have nothing but wait until the naira falls to bottomless pit. This not time for propaganda neither is it time for the usual we are the messiah others are failures.

Dear Igbos, instead of shouting Afonja upandawn, this is a fight for you to take up. Northern youths have given your son 21 days to resign, if you guys are not coward, we expect you to face them squarely. Don't stand by and watch as northerners rubbish and replace Emefiele with another fulani man.

Every hypocritical, why not call for the resignation of the certificateless cattle rearer?

It was the certificateless cattle rearer who intimidated and blocked the Central Bank of Nigeria from performing its statutory duties of independently responding to challenges in the foreign exchange market. By continuously making public statements that Nigeria would not adjust the exchange rate for the naira, it became difficult for the Central Bank to respond without appearing to openly defy the President. The currency market is however determined by demand and supply, not presidential fiat and the President could not sustain his populist attempt to defend the value of the naira and by the time he succumbed to economic reality, substantial damage had already been done.

It is always unwise for presidents to make direct political comments about monetary and foreign exchange policy that are solely within the purview of the Central Bank, because this could undermine the confidence of the apex bank itself and the external confidence in its independence that is an important psychological factor for market players who seek to invest in the economy. If such investors believe that the playing field is not level because political interference could shift the goal posts in an arbitrary manner, the risk of investing in such a market rises in their estimation. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/opinion/editorial/211367-editorial-buhari-helped-nigeria-recession-can-take-us.html

The actual person that ought to resign here is the super clueless certificateless cattle rearer.

Why don't they kill him instead of asking him to resign..
Africans, especially Nigerians don't resign..

Meanwhile, this whole thing is confusing, cos one can only ask what's Kemi's place in this whole thing..

Let's wait and see, Nigerians shall suffer to the extent that people may end up eating others to survive..

Since 1960, nothing has ever returned to normal, Ever!
instead.. .things has a tradition of getting worse and this won't, I repeat WON'T get better..

why single out emefele from the whole of Buhari's economic team for resignation? what of the finance minister and others? Emefiele was part of GEJ administration, and during his era under GEJ, nothing like economic recession existed, not until he stated working under the certificateless cattle rearer who introduced over-centralisation of power and decided to run the economy like a centrally planned economy. His administrations have not allowed his team to perform optimally.

Actually the CBN is kind of in charge of the economy. The finance minister is in charge of the FG's finances.( The finance minister is more like an accountant to the FG.)

Monetary policy == CBN
Fiscal policy == Finance Minister.

How can such a key position as cbn governor be in the hands of a inyamiri 5%er ? My dear Emefiele, the gambari herdsmen have said their own and I believe a word is enough for the wise. The northern elders had mandated Buhari to fill all sensitive govt positions with northerners in a meeting before he was sworn in last year so I advice you to prepare for retirement

I will like to avoid the reason the group made for his resignations, because it is clear they want to be saling dollar as they used to... Let's be realistic, the CBN cannot afford any other option apart from withholding and controlling the amount of foreign currency especially the dollar to at least save the naira, mitigate inflation and regulate the depiction of our foreign reserve (which we can give them pass mark on). It is no longer news that Nigeria is in deep recession, with little source of foreign exchange, the economic activties has slowed down and local companies are struggling. The economic term of the presidency should bring out packages that will aid in boosting economic activties, spend more money and borrow if need be. You see this is what will aid the CBN to take more actions. The ball is in the court of the minister and his team to bring out packages that will be compatible with reality on ground.

When this administration started they said they said that things would change because when the head is rotten, the rest of the body would follow suit.

This was said in response to it being indicated that one man may not be able to change the system.

They said now the head is clean, the rest of the body would follow suit. Why do they think right now that it is the body that is making the head rotten?

Anyway, if this statement really came from the group it is said to have come from, one of the things that jumped out of the words of that writing is that the writer(s) seem only semi-educated (more like poorly educated)

Don't get me wrong, the group are a bunch of political jobbers and I don't care about them.
My own is if Buhari is impeding the work of Emefile, he should resign. It's the same advice I'd give to Kemi and I expected Kachikwu to have resigned since.

My quoting you was just too point out that the CBN plays a role in the economy (a big one at that)and I believe the CBN governor should be more powerful than the minister of finance.

Illiterates! You called for Emefiele to resign but left Buhari whose archaic policies and negative utterances has done more damage to our economy than anyone else to remain. Tell me a single policy of this deaf and dumb govt, none.

A country in recession is supposed to have the govt take serious drastic decision like increases in tax for the rich, immediate cutting down of salaries and allowances of politicians at all levels, suspension of some key programs in the budget and mopping up funds to shore up revenues to help stimulate the economy. They refused to take any action but only want to sell assets to fund their flamboyant lifestyle.

It is high time groups here in the South-be it sponsored or real group-started protesting and calling on Buhari to resign cos we are tired of his record breaking incompetence
