Not just an office. It happens even in our homes, churches, markets etc. An average Nigerian is closed up to learning new skills. That's why in our homes, a door get spoilt-they call a carpenter. Toilet gets bad-they look for a plumber. Bulb gets dead-where is the electrician. Roof starts leaking-they go fetch an engineer. In Hollywood movies you see families carrying out small maintenance work by themselves without having to bring in specialists, they even have specially assigned rooms ( sometimes in the basement) where engineering tools are kept for home maintenance purposes. In Nigeria, we'd rather spend that on that extra car that we don't need and has no place in the parking lot or garage.
This also goes down to the poor level of vocational education in our primary, secondary and tertiary institutions.
These days most engineering graduates don't even know how to use a measuring tape.

I guess you are talking for talking sake. who told you an engineer cannot use a measuring tape. biko. if you have one in your family it is not like that every where.

System is not browsing - You wonder who tampered with the system date.

They send doc to the wrong printer - IT my system is not printing.

My printer is not printing - Sometimes they are right in this. The printer does refuse to print sometimes until i ping the printer from the affected system.

They send very large doc to the network printer, after 5-10secs of waiting they scream IT my printer is not printing.

You inform them you're restarting the network devices, then just immediately someone screams, IT no network. Hmmmm this the most painful.

A/c is not cooling, someone screams IT, you go there only to discover they had removed it from the starbilizer.

There's no power in their extension socket, you get there to discover the power button on the extension is off even though the button on the wall socket is on.

They mistakenly send a mail to the wrong person - Hmmm this one na office arrest. They'll come and fetch you immediately to help them recall the mail by all means.

Network is slow - you discover 2 - 3 people are on YouTube while another is download a movie.

No wifi signal - I won't write on this.

They forgot their login password. - SYSTEM must have prompted them to change but they ignored.

The thing is, hardware related issue makes you exercise your legs. Software/application related issues. This I'll login to their system remotely and resolve the matter.

The thing pisses me the hell out everytime i am been called for just anything ,my monitor cant come on simply turn it on rather than calling me to climb four floors unnecessarily

Not everything was achieved with the help of enthusiasm....One might get frustrated sometimes and still make it...As well as one can be uninterested in a subject and still create something great of it....Knowledge is what matters....enthusiasm is just the engine oil that helps avoid friction....

Another reason is that people with vocational skills sell their services too cheap here. If they start billing people like their counterparts abroad do, nobody will tell Nigerians to acquire DIY skills.
