In 1960, Fidel Castro nationalized all US owned businesses which prompted the United States to end diplomatic relation with Cuba. Cuba went into trading relation with Soviet Union. Ofcourse this didnt go well with US who sort ways to attack Cuba. They coundnt do that directly cos of international outcry.

I961, over 1400 Cuban exiles trained by CIA carried out a failed attack on Cuba called Bay Of Pigs. It was indeed a collapsed of of disaster as Cuba Revolutionary Army launched a counter attack on the CIA trained paramilitary and defeated them. This prompted Castro to ask Soviet Union to mount Missiles in Cuba so as to forestall further attack from the US . Soviet Union mounted missiles in Cuba . Sighted by US satellite , they were alarmed by the level of weaponry being constructed at their back yard. US, asked Soviet Union to remove the missiles which they refused. US went and blocked water ways and there was no movement. This brought the US in direct confrontation with Soviet Union under the leadership of Nikita Kruschev .

When two world powers are in confrontation, UN disappear. The world was in standstill.. World War III was imminent. But it was averted .
