ASUU May Go On Indefinite Strike by ceomike(m): 1:13pm On Nov 22, 2016
With the one week nationwide ASUU strike expected to end today, lecturers are threatening to go on an indefinite strike if the government do not meet their demands.

Dr. Ifeanyi Abada, the Chairman of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka Chapter of the Academic staff Union of Universities, made this known on Tuesday in Nsukka, Enugu State.

“ASUU was left with no option than to proceed on the one-week warning strike; failure to meet our demands, we will go on an indefinite strike, Abada told the News Agency of
Nigeria.

He said that the chapter complied fully with the warning strike directive.

“The National Executive Committee made efforts to resolve this issue with the government but government remained unyielding.

“The strike compliance in UNN is total, no lectures, no examinations, no departmental and faculty meetings, as members will not participate.

“UNN chapter will not renege on the directive of the national body until government addresses all the issues raised.

“Our monitoring team is moving round; any lecturer found teaching will be sanctioned accordingly,’’ he said.

According to Abada, among the demands of ASUU is that universities be exempted from the Treasury Single Account policy.

He noted that ASUU was also demanding Federal Government implementation of an agreement it entered into with ASUU in 2009.

Meanwhile, academic activities are still paralysed in the university as a result of the warning strike.(NAN)

The poster above me should just take it easy. One of the demands of ASUU is the exemption from TSA. Now let me explain that to you. Foreign research organizations give grants to qualified Individual lecturers to carry out research and there is a timeline for implementation. The grants are usually released in tranches- of three to four payments depending on your level of compliance with the research objectives which are time bound. So when these funds are paid, they are paid into the TSA of the University of the resident researcher and before such funds can come out may take between 3-6 months depending on the turn of disbursement- Imagine a research window of just 2months to do all you have to do and report back to the donor-Your guess is as good as mine! ASUU strike is not new, the Government should implement its agreement with the Union or is there anything difficult in that? So demanding for their rights is now a sin? Let's be fair- these same polithiefcians that were beneficiaries of free education now earn millions just for sitting down and doing nothing while the Ivory tower that moulds character and knowledge year in year out is left to rot away- yet you and I would be the same people to shout " half baked graduates". Please next time if you don't have any tangible thing to comment quietly leave the thread.

Is this strike by ASUU or PDP-ASUU ? . . . .
You signed agreement when there was excess and want it implemented when there is deficit.
