Harnessing The Potential Of MMM Towards Greater Good. by Nobody: 2:29pm On Dec 04, 2016
MMM by now has earned it's place as the latest rave in town and rightly so inspite of the dozens of media attacks on the scheme ,sponsored articles aimed at discrediting the scheme and creating public panic and outright baseless remarks against the scheme somehow MMM has refused to go away and instead continues to wax stronger.

It is almost as if the more negative reports there are about MMM the more members it garners to itself which begs the question ,are we ignoring an opportunity here ?

MMM has been considered to be many things among which are ;it's a ponzi scheme ,a money doubling scheme ,a wonder bank ,a rob Peter to pay Paul scheme ,a HYIP scheme etc and while there may be good reason to describe the scheme with such terms there is no gainsaying the fact that in the meantime ,MMM activities has brought about a transformation in the lives of many otherwise ordinary and hopeless Nigerians .

One fact that cannot be disputed ever is this ,no government policy has ever touched the lives of millions Nigerians positively the way MMM has done for the last 16 years since the inception of democratic rule .

We remain a people grappling with the problems we have always had for decades even when our singular forex earner sold at a premium .Nigerians simply havent been directly affected positively by any policy of government the way MMM has and this is a verifiable act.

Increasingly politicians and "big ogas" would find that their "boys" are not available to hang around for errands and little change as they are busy on their android phones (thanks to the chinese for cheaper options) participating in MMM and making fair plans for their lives based on their expected gains .Of course we can expect a drop in crime rate as there would increasingly be less and less "boys" available to do the dirty jobs .

For our Nigerian Banks ,Christmas came early !!!.It is a fact that due to MMM activities ,Nigerian Banks are making so much more revenue from Internet transfer charges ,than they ever where before, think about this for a second ,there are at least 2.6m active MMM participants in the country as of last count ,imagine half that number making Internet transfers and incurring the NGN105 transfee charges as frequently as twice a month (this is an understatement).this is besides the N65 atm charges etc.you can picture the huge revenue potential for banks and MMM has contributed immensely to bring this about .

A lot of Nigerians who where initially adverse to online transactions have embraced these banking solutions and the cashless policy which seemed to be a hard sell due to the fear of fraud (yahoo yahoo) is pretty much been effected inadvertently due to MMM participation .

In a bid to discredit this scheme ,critics predictably ignore the obvious gains and choose instead to dwell on the negatives and it is hard not to detect malicious intent shrouded in a deceptive attempt to inform and educate.

The height of it was when our honourable house of reps members sat and decided that MMM was unacceptable and directed the EFCC to go after promoters of the scheme and while it is clear Nigerians registered their response to this uninformed move, one cannot help but point out the obvious lack of appreciation of the potential of this scheme .

This singular act of the HOR members created a mild panic which could have caused a crash of the scheme (an outcome they claimed, by their actions ,to be protecting Nigerians from) and one cannot help but wonder ,would it not have been a more informed approach to invite front line promoters of the scheme and engage them in a chat to establish the true facts of things before seeking to "advise"Nigerian, instead of a dictatorial approach which was resoundedly rejected by all participants of the scheme .

Almost everyone I know is participating in this scheme and I am sure it is the same for most of you readers.which brings me to my main point ,is the government not missing out on an opportunity to really affect the lives of many more Nigerians positively ?

We are in a recession and all forms of positive impact is welcome.
A lot of people may disagree with this but I think that the plan to waste NGN500M paying poor Nigerians NGN5000 is not even close to been an effective answer to the problems it hopes to address .

First of all, what criteria would be used to determine who the most eligible Nigerians for this "dash" are ? ,how many Nigerians can benefit and how much impact can NGN5000 make in the life of an average Nigerian in an economy where the cost of basic goods have doubled?
What happens to the millions more Nigerians who would not receive this dash and for how long can the government continue to pay this dash?
obviously this is an exercise in futility and it would be ineffective .

This may sound crazy but the fg can decide to partner with MMM and set up a fund that can be accessed by batches of Nigerians.

How ? You setup a N500m fund and Nigerians can register to access this fund through a dedicated portal and it would be dispatched on a first come first serve basis .

Depending on choice ,you proceed to dispatch funds between 100k- 200k to participants and as the participate in MMM they come back to repay this loan which would be available for subsequent batches of applicants .

By so doing the first batch of participants walk away with 30k or 60k depending on the amount of loan received(30% of 100k or 200k) and the original funds is available to other applicants .

You find that by properly regulating this project you have immediately put funds in the hands of many Nigerians which encourages more spending .you would touch the lives of many more nigerians with a lot more reasonable money than a 5k dash(you have to agree 30k or 60k with a potential for more is much better than 5k) .The government can charge a small interest and still have its original funds intact for as long as the project is sustained and available to many more Nigerians.

This may mean ,a government validating a perceived illegal scheme but with a more cusory look there is an opportunity to immediately put money in the hands of mIllions more poor Nigerians than just a 5k dash to a select few .

This is an imaginary thought of mine and you don't have to agree with it.
