An election is the processes where individuals or citizens of a country are qualify to vote for a representative person into government. E elections in various countries have been free and fair and others have faced rigged and violence. But my main focus is not to discuss on what is elections or importance of elections.

But what happen on Wednesday 8th December 2016 in Ghana,Millions of Ghanaian left their homes early in the room to perform their voting rights franchise at various polling units across the country.

Here are the 6 valuable lessons Nigeria as country has learned from Ghana 2016 elections;

1. In the year 2010 Ghana’s supreme court ruled that prisoners can perform their voting rights they vote in 2012 and 2016 arrangements were made for the prisoners to vote their choice of individuals into government. According to yen.com about 2,276 prisoners across the country have been registered.

2. Social media
A picture of a policeman in Ghana monitoring social media keenly for reports any rigged or malpractices using the social media to make reports and send vital information in the polling centers, Proper monitoring by security operatives is to stop any criminal activities in the voting units.

3. Public Queues
There are queues in various polling units; despite the queues its miraculous Ghana citizens respect the queues and orderliness during voting process to organize free and fair elections in the country.

4. Counting of Votes
Another amazing thing in Ghana elections 2016 citizens, voters and prisoners witness the public counting of the ballot and declaration of the results. No account or time will the ballot boxes leave the voters still the voters under the eye watch the counting of ballot this is to assure voters of their votes counts and no form of rigging in their votes.

5. Ban of Motorcycles and Sale of Alcohol
Citizens who lined at about 3am yesterday perform their voting rights outside the Ketan town hall polling unit, Ghana electoral commission bans the use of motorcycles and sale of alcohol near polling centers on Election Day.

6. Discount on taxi fares
Finally, it is quite interesting to see taxi companies in the country offering discounts for election transport to help citizens to and from polling centers.

This is enough for Nigerians to learn from its West African neighbor Ghana about elections the truth about free and fair elections not violence or rigged of votes.
