2016 has not been a good year for Nigeria politically and economically. Here is a list of some politicians who disappointed Nigerians despite high hopes that they are capable of taking the country to an enviable heights.


1. President Mohammadu Buhari: President Mohammadu Buhari tops the list of most disappointing politicians in Nigeria for 2016. Where do we even start from? Is it of the economic recession? or lopsided appointments? selective anti-corruption war? no sound economic policies and directions; no strong measure to tackle insurgence and herdsmen killing? The list is endless.

2. Governor El-Rufai: Governor El-Rufai's entrance into power was for the first few months applauded because of how the governor rolled out good governance policies and investment scheme in the state. But the disappointment is how the governor is unable to contain religious crisis – that claimed dozens of lives – in the state. He recently labelled the Shiite Islamic Movement of Nigeria, an insurgent group.

3. Governor Wike: Nyesome Wike of Rivers state has positioned himself to be political stronghold in Rivers state. Ever since he took over power from his rival Rotimi Amaechi, the state has been embroiled in political war. Elections under Governor Wike have been a nightmare – laden with bloody and gruesome killings.

4. Solomon Dalung: Amid giant strides from Nigerian athletes in various sports, Mr Dalung has not made the Nigerian Ministry of Sports worthy. Nigerian athletes have been disappointed, embarrassed on various occasions, with inaction and disparaging comments from him. The latest of his controversies being the non-payment of allowances to the Super Falcons after AWCON win.

5. Raji Fashola: Babatunde Raji Fashola has been shouldered with Nigeria's Ministry of Works, Power and Housing. The former Lagos state governor has failed to deliver on its promise of fixing Nigeria's power supply a year after appointment. Before his appointment, he was quoted to have said any responsible government would fix power in six months. He also promised 10,000 MW by 2019, but we are way below the half.

6. Governor Aregbesola: A look at Governor Aregbesola's adminsitration in Osun state points out to how so many things are wrong in his administration. Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola was returned to office in November 27, 2014 for a second term. 6 years since he has been piloting the affairs of the state, Governor Aregbesola is running government without commissioners, no local government elections, the state also grapples with backlog of salaries.
