12-Year-Old Tomisin Ogunnubi Built An App That Can Help Lost Kids Find Their Way Home
A few weeks ago, 12-year-old Nigerian student Tomisin Ogunnubi, completed the development of her impressive Android mobile tracking app, My Locator – with the intention of helping lost kids find their way home.
Under the supervision of an Information and Communications Technology partnership between her school, Vivian Fowler Memorial College for Girls, and New Horizons Computer Learning Centre, Ogunnubi was able to get started building the app she always wanted to.
How the app works?
The ‘current location‘ setting on the app, lets the child know where they are and the neighbouring streets around them. If that doesn’t work, the app allows the kids to save a location – like their house or school – and will direct them on how to get from wherever they are to that saved location.
The app also has an ‘alert‘ button that is connected to the Lagos State Emergency Service number (767). When the button is pressed, the emergency number is called and a message showing the child’s current location will be sent to them for help.
You can download Ogunnubi’s app on any android phone for free https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=appinventor.ai_tomisin_ogunnubi2020.MyLocator&hl=en
