In pidgin: 1. Oyibo (white person/westerner) 2. Obodo oyibo (white man's land/abroad) You missed the blatantly obvious two that have been debated to the core on this very forum 1001 times. And tey, na, nwantinti, gbam. Food: Okpa Goat meat pepper soup Ngwo-ngwo Point and Kill (Catfish Pepper Soup) - na Igbo abi? Agidi jellof Ora Onugbu Ofe nsala Akpu Okro Ogbolo Egwusi Ehu (na calabash nutmeg) Snail And I'm pretty sure it was Igbos who introduced the concept of concoction rice (it does actually exist in Igboland as a traditional version of standard jollof rice). |

Igbo contributed alot to pidgin english well e.g-the pidgin way of adding "go" in some sentence is definitely of igbo origin,go in igbo language is "Ga" In igbo-A ga'm aga Pidgin-i go go Igbo-A ga'm eri Pidgin-i go chop |

agadez007: I've noticed. There's also similar structure in Jamaican patois and I know there's plenty numerous loanwords in their pidgin of Igbo origin (I know they use the correct Igbo form for you-plural, unu, and de for di, and plenty others). It was also them who introduced proverbs and certain concepts (dibia-obiah/obeah). They even call potopoto for mud sef. |
