Mumbai Airport runway to be shut for five hours a week till Nov 28

Mumbai: More than 2,000 flight operations will be hit at Mumbai airport as both the main as well as secondary runways of the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) are shut for five hours for nine days beginning Monday through 28 November for surface repairs.

CSIA said they will be closing down the only main runway (No 09/27) as well as the secondary runway (No 14/32) for five hours on 31 October, 3 , 7, 10, 14, 17, 21, 24 and 28 November, which is likely to affect as many as 2,100 flights.

The runways will be shut from 12pm to 5pm, the airport added.

β€œOn an average there are 45 air traffic movements an hour. So a five-hour shutdown means 225 movements could be hit,” the airport operator Mumbai International Airport Pvt. Ltd (MIAL) told PTI on Monday.

why relocate any of these FG bodies.
Already there is an already existing structure in Kaduna to handle domestic flights.

Simple terminate all international flights at Lagos. And connect Abuja through domestic flights to Kaduna.

If the train and the roads are working as they should, then people can move to Abuja easily using the road or commute via the train for the 8-12 weeks the airport will be closed.

No need to spend 1 naira.

Buhari and El rufai are trying to cash in on us

Why not construct another runway in Abuja airport instead of relocating and upgrading another airport

Are we not in recession again?

Na wa o!

Runway 2 would cost $5bn to $15 billion....ie...N250-750BILLION naira....more than the planned relocation costs to Kaduna of N1.1billion.

Abuja airport will be closed for six weeks....while the runway is fixed. Once that happens...it gets reopened...and Kaduna returns back to the status quo ante.

SexyBabe001:
Minister of State for Aviation, Sen. Hadi Sirika has said that the relocation of operations of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport to Kaduna would cost over N1.1 billion.

Sirika while briefing the senate on the logistics implication of the relocation said that the ministry had taken into account relevant agencies that would be deployed to facilitate the relocation.Recall last week, the Senate could not reach a conclusion with the ministry as issues such as the cost of the relocation could not be answered.

However, while briefing the lawmakers on Tuesday, Sirika said that the relocation will gulp N1.134 billion.

Of the amount, the Nigerian Railway Corporation is to gulp N100,326,400, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) will take N237,247,216.21 while the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) will take up N325,000,000.

A total of N358,517,700 million was allocated to the Nigerian Police Force and the Nigeria Immigration Service is to take N29 million Naira.

The ministry is also going to hire the buses of the Federal Ministry of Transportation for N84 million naira, which brings the total figure to N1.134 billion.

The Abuja Airport is expected to be closed for six weeks from March 8.

However, many of the senators who spoke still expressed displeasure with the closure of the airport stressing that it could be done without total closure of the airport.

Relocation to cost #1.134bil ?

Is this the cost of moving the airport out and in, for the 6weeks it'll be locked down?

Or
Is it cost of repairs to be effected on the airport?

Or

Am I not understanding?

Cos I didn't see any amount awarded to any construction firm, abi FRSC, NPF, NRC, go do the work?

I don't think it costs that much to build a new one tho

It's not so much the cost of actually building the thing than the land acquisition and other environmental studies so it would probably not make sense given the number of flights to Abuja.

A new runway would need to be perpendicular or near-perpendicular to the existing one to give you the operational flexibility. The required land area is therefore a rectangle whose sides are the lengths of the two runways (old and new). Quite a lot of land, and Abuja airport is ringed with land relating to people's livelihoods. You also need to commission detailed environmental studies eg, bird migration paths, etc.

In these difficult times, perhaps a few weeks inconvenience can be accepted as the best alternative.

IMO, of course.

Airport? As high as $33billion.....or as low as $900billion (King Shaka international airport, South Africa).

Why should road safety gulp about 200m, what are they buying? Apart from patrolling the road, immigration 26m, are these people in thier right senses, or has FRSC started providing safety for airplanes

I didn't even hear cost of renovating the kaduna airport, buses 84m, railway 100m, so security will alone gulp more dan 50% of the total sum, this Is pure loot, it should be rejected
