I actually don't know how this is based on, or is it with the fights that ensue between market women and their customers, bus drivers, conductors and their passengers, or is it the war between the press and the government? i actually can't see it. In weather of 80degrees and above, who the hell has time to be happy, probably it's the hugh amount of obituary ceremonies that are performed every friday that did the trick. 1 Like |

I don't know what the basis for their ranking is, but I believe we're very happy ppl. I think the main thing is Nigerians are very optimistic (at least, personally i.e. everyone believes it WILL be well with them someday soon), even illiterates despite the level of poverty. I don't think they base their rankings on satisfaction, but on general happiness. God knows we're a happy ppl. Foreigners in Nigeria always talk about our warmth and happiness. Imagine ppl struggling to enter buses, walking, or selling in the heavy Ikeja traffic. They should be angry and frustrated, shouting at one another. But when the Amstel Office reality show contestants were performing on the road, many of these ppl took time to watch and appreciate them. That's just an example of how we don't allow everyday problems affect us too much. Plus, there's so much dancing in Nigerian songs - even songs that complain of our situation, you see them smiling and dancing. Maybe that affected the rating too. 1 Like |

yeah right, the fresh warm air -no shiver and you get to giggle most of the time with anybody, junior, boss, senoir, padie even teacher. i think i can count how many times i giggle in uk. people are sure happy in nigeria. you can psyche anybody and get away wtih it over there while you are fired here. but some people are still desperate to come sha. nigeria is a country of fun and relaxing while some people has work their ass off in uk for few quid. hmmn |

No doubt, the economy and prevailing situation is a shame on our crude oil, but am baffled but not amazed that despite all this odds, the average nigerian celebrates his misery with bottles of beer and on a plate of pepper soup and also exchanging banters with friends and he finally mutters the common man's slogan E go better before retiring to bed.I think nigerians generally have this inbuilt ruggedity, and they are so happy with their situation no matter what, but the fact is this its all shuffering and shmiling |

I beleive that Nigeria is the happiest country, because with all the suffering Poverty and everything complains that people have, but people still have time to smile be happy laugh. People are in hard times but try to bring the best out of it rather than commiting suicide, going on hunger strike and doing many crazy things. |

By the time you walk the streets on London and see the 'plastic smile' on the faces of people, then you will understand why Nigerians are the happiest people on earth. There is a place in Russia where it is seen as stupid to smile sometimes. |

Nigeria is indeed the happiest country if you consider the situation in which the country is in. You don't need stats to prove that, to me a day in nigeria especially christmas is better than a day elsewhere. Nigeria is a very comedic place and you can even see the most poorest of people laughing, which is something you won't see elsewhere. Nigeria like most other African countries has a soul which is something that the developed world lacks. Happiness is not based on wealth, like they say money can't buy happiness. It is the burning strength of our ancestors that causes us to fight our brothers not difference because the truth is Africa will always be a warrior and dark continent unless the whole place is changed, but amidst all that fighting and hatred we must live to laugh another day. |

Nna, I believe that Nigerians are the happiest people in the world. I am a happy go lucky kind of a guy. Even in America here, regarded as the land of milk and honey, the misery plastered on people's faces sometimes may make you wonder why people dont choose to smile. At work, you are forced to face your duties squarely instead of conversing or even cracking jokes with your co-workers. Ok, it may reduce productivity at work, but would a sullen person increase work output? People think that money buys happiness which is a big fat lie. Money aint everything. |
