Nigeria’ll Regain World’s Largest Cocoa Producer Position — FG by ayindejimmy(m): 2:40am On Jan 18, 2017 |
THE Federal Government has declared that Nigeria will regain her lost position as the world’s largest cocoa producer and exporter soon. Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, disclosed this during the inauguration of the Cocoa Relaunch Committee at the headquarters of the Ministry in Abuja. Ogbeh said the government’s move to realise the lofty ambition was possible with the inauguration of Dr Olayiwola Oluwole-led committee for the country to attain the top spot from its current seventh position in world cocoa producing countries’ ranking. He said: “In-house here, we can say it is a shame for us to be seventh on the list of cocoa producers in the world. But we must reverse it to be at the top and that is why we are here. This is the time to do it and no other time than now. Largest cocoa producer “Cocoa can be grown in many parts of the country. We cannot afford to remain seventh cocoa producing nation. We are going to take over from Cote D’Ivoire as the largest cocoa producer in the world. We can earn huge foreign exchange from cocoa because oil and gas has done damage to our economy and we have to go back to agriculture to rescue the economy. “We are going to have cocoa relaunch campaign in March at Ondo State, and we want all cocoa farmers from cocoa producing states to be present. You have to come up with materials that could be used for cocoa production because cocoa can be grown in many parts of the country and presently there are 27 states that can grow cocoa. The cocoa farmers need to be enlightened on what they could do to improve on what they have been doing in the industry.” The minister also expressed confidence in the newly inaugurated committee and charged them not to hesitate to come up with useful approach to move Nigeria’s cocoa producing capacity higher than it has been, and also stated that farmers are to be in charge of cocoa and not government. Speaking on behalf of the committee, the chairman, Dr Olayiwola Oluwole, thanked the minister for the confidence reposed in them, some of whom are being drawn from both public and private sectors. He promised to work assiduously to ensure Nigeria recovers her lost glory of being the largest producer of the commodity in the world and also number one cocoa exporting country in the world. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/01/nigeriall-regain-worlds-largest-cocoa-producer-position-fg/ 2 Likes 1 Share |

Let's just hope that this is not simply some paper talk! Another committee that will mostly seat in air-conditioned offices and cars dishing out policies without any extension service to oversee its implementations. Why does the government not sent up cocoa plantations in every local government in the 22 states and sell the farms after the first harvest to willing investors? We must empower entrepreneurs to take up these challenges by providing conducive environment for them to thrive. Cocoa do well in the West, palm oil in the East, grains and cereals in the North and fishing in the South South. Why not start the initiatives beyond mere policy speculations. Go physical and sell afterwards!

Don’t Mock MMM Participants
There is no real value in mocking anyone. The practical
thing to do is see how to help. Some of the suggestions
may not sit well, but the truth is like bitter leaf, bitter in the
mouth but sweet to the body.
Mocking MMM and its participants seems one easy way to
get cheap popularity today. The internet is awash with news
about MMM and it’s crash. Don’t be deceived. By mocking
and writing, all you are merely doing is marketing. MMM
has not crashed yet.
I think people grossly underestimate Sergie Mavrodi. You
can accuse him of many things, but not of being dumb. If
you understand a little about the game of chess, you’ll know
that this move is a very good move. The freeze was simply
an opportunity for the public to pick a pawn and expose
their rook, or if the public gets careless, the queen. When a
player voluntarily releases their piece, it’s because there is
something bigger in front (What I’m saying in plain English
is, Sergie Mavrodi has not lost control of play, he’s still in
charge of the game).
Barring any unforeseen other circumstances (a possibility
actually), MMM is not gone anywhere yet. It’s merely
gathering momentum and building for the next phase. By
this time, membership would explode, and confidence will
soar. Many who are currently on the fence but also can’t
deny their greed for long will be rallied in. It’s not easy to
ignore the lure of greed for long, particularly when your
friends are earning big.
Here are my little suggestions for those who are in it and
those on the outside.
1. Don’t panic, keep calm. Worrying doesn’t make anything
happen.
2. Evaluate your current reality and ask yourself practical
questions, reduce your position appropriately
3. Focus on what you are doing that creates value, money
is really a store of value, if you don’t connect money to
value quickly it will pass away.
4. All the “safe” modes are to give the scheme longevity,
not to make it last forever. Be guided. |
