Breasts are made up of three types of tissue: ligaments or connective tissue, mammary glands and fat – emphasis on the fat. Your body stores fatty deposits when you gain weight. The opposite is true when you lose weight. Unfortunately, your body doesn’t differentiate between the fat in your tummy and the fat in your breasts. Breasts often become larger during weight gain and smaller during weight loss, resulting in sagging, loose skin.

It’s natural for skin all over your body to sag after a significant amount of weight loss including the skin on your breasts. However, sagging breast skin often makes it look like your breasts have been deflated. While the rest of your body is shaping up, you may feel like your breasts have puckered out on you. The truth is, your breasts are still there. There’s just too much skin for you to appreciate them fully.

Firming up the Twins after Weight Loss

First of all, weight loss is a great accomplishment. You should feel great about yourself. Try to not worry so much about the state of your breasts and concentrate on other things you like about your new body. In the meantime, try the following to firm up your breasts after weight loss:

• Time heals all wounds and firms up sagging skin. After weight loss, it takes time for your skin to become accustomed to your smaller frame. You will notice your skin becoming firmer over the course of months, not days. It’s a slow process, but your skin will not always look like it does now.
• Drink plenty of water. Did you know that most people are chronically dehydrated? Drinking water does wonderful things for your body and your skin. When your body doesn’t have the water it needs to perform functions, it pulls it from somewhere. Your skin is often the first place to become dry, resulting in deeper wrinkles and heavier skin sags. Drink water to plump your skin. Don’t forget to match your water intake to your physical activity. The more active you are, the more water you need.
• Add strength training to your workouts. Focus heavily on exercises that strengthen your pectorals – the muscles located directly under your breasts. Firming and building your pectorals does two things for your breasts. First, increased muscle mass will make your breasts appear larger and firmer. Second, firmer muscles will give your breasts something solid to rest on.
• Use plenty of moisturizer on your skin to help it firm up. Massage your breasts daily using an intense skin moisturizer or breast-firming product such as Brestrogen. Don’t worry; you can over lubricate your breasts. Slather on as much as you can as often as you can.

While you’re waiting for your skin to shrink to your new body size, invest in supportive gear for your breasts. Purchase good supportive bras that fit you perfectly. If your old bras feel loose, pitch them. Invest in new ones that fit right. Experiment with the types of bras you wear too. For example, a padded bra will give you lift and volume, two things that are missing after significant weight loss. Do not allow your breasts to hang freely for long periods of time, and always wear the right type of bra during exercise. Sports bras are designed specifically for exercise by preventing breast bounce during vigorous activities.

Don’t allow loose skin to sway you from your goal of maintaining a healthy body weight. Give it some time. Your skin will not always look like it does now. It will shrink and you’ll have firm breasts once again.
