Thus is a dumb move.

Knowing where the sim is registered doesn't in anyway check crime. Rather the complete identity of the registrant will do.

If one registers in Akwa Ibom and the next morning he is Kaduna state for a criminal mission and probably he is neither from both states nor region. How would that help?
But the data registered will not change.

How is SIM registration alleviation of poverty? Last time I checked its free...nobody stops registration of sim cards but it should be done in a controlled environment. It baffles one how some of you kids think , where else is sim card registered under umbrellas ? Simply follow directives that wilk favour all you start shouting FG is a bastards.
You want Nigeria to be like advanced countries but don't want to do things these advanced countries do.

Many things about this Government is just bent on frustrating it's citizens. Don't they know that this act will breed unemployment. Most young guys and ladies under umbrellas doing sim registration does it to earn a living, put food on their table. So wetin those people go do now? Rather than stopping this, I suggest that FG look for a way with the telco companies to strengthen and authenticate sim registration so that attackers and bad people won't make use of the act to commit crime

Foolish thoughts.
You are free to sell recharge card under umbrella
you are free to sell phones under umbrella
you can sell modem WiFi mifi and other gadgets under umbrella
Doing all these you will make money

But how does registering sim card for people free poverty alleviation?

Ignorance is a disease

It wont reduce any crime. These open air registration points, were a source of employment for some unemployed people. Now the government wants everyone to go to the offices of network providers to register. Imagine the crowds in one building, just for registration.

If it will truly reduce crime, then they shud go ahead.

There is no where in any part of the world where you can get into the country, buy and register a SIM and dispose of it when leaving.

What we have here in Nigeria is that, you can go to a bus stop , buy a SIM, register the SIM with fake information, commit crimes with the SIM and then dispose the SIM, since you know that you have given wrong information.

Its just that this directive will affect people who were using this means to earn income. Its a welcome directive as it will reduce the way SIMS are being used to commit crimes.

In my own opinion SIM card shouldn’t be sold in any office expect the official office of network operators. We are complained of insecurity in the country, it’s one of the ways to ensure security in the country. You can further do more research on it. To find out, how other countries register their SIM card. We should always be objectives in our argument.
