nairaman66:You are wrong! It's the tree producing the oil that is called "oil palm" [i.e. Oil palm is the tree's name], while the extracted oil itself is referred to as "palm oil". |

justicejay: And how has all the above reduced our interest or prevented us from furthering agriculture? You these "yesterday children" are not only dumb, you are brainless! FYI, Buhari/Idiagbon's regime was "draconian" but it came-in to address so many corrupt and abusive tendencies of Nigerian Politicians of that day (the Umaru Dikkos, Nzeribes, Omboriowos, e.t.c) who have plundered the wealth of the country.... just as they have done when it took over in 2015. The regime was also out to sanitise the madness the indiscipline among the citizenry ........stealing, drug pushing, dirtiness, laziness, abuse of products (faking), sub-standardisation of "measures and units of measure" and many more ills that were rampant just at the tail end of the last regime. It is unfortunate that Buhari is always coming to power (or being voted into power) when Nigeria has been messed-up by Politicians and "we the people" are looking unto him to perform a miracle! But we know what we are doing and why we always call on Buhari in those "bad and dangerous times" .....even though some of us are too dishonest to see or accept the truth! Between 1979 and 1983 when Buhari took over via a coup, POLITICIANS in the NPN as a party ruined Nigeria, just as POLITICIANS in the PDP as a party, ruined Nigeria between 1999 and 2015. They loot our foreign reserve, refuse to invest in the economy, infrastructure becomes comatose, unemployment at very high levels, hunger in the land, insecurity and armed robbery at alarming rate, insurgency and restiveness in the Niger Delta, e.t.c Each time we are about to fall off the edge of the Cliff, we simply call on Buhari to 'help us'..... yet we blame him for what we experience as a result of previous bad leadership and corruption! I just hope "history is not about to repeat itself" because after all the #Wailings and cries in 1983....... and Buhari was overthrown, Nigerians were thrown into a very long, most destructive "chop-l-chop" Govt of General Ibrahim Babangida (The Evil genius that smiles while killing!) who legalised all forms of evil into the Nigerian system, from first-time usage of "parcel bomb" (Dele Giwa) to the "settlement mentality" of Corruption, to loss of purchasing power of the Naira (when the real devaluation of the Naira actually started!), to SAP (Structural Adjustment Programme which institutionalised Poverty in Nigeria, till date while the few rich became very rich), intensified Politics of division along Ethnic and Religious lines, e.t.c. You may not like Buhari because he is a Northerner and belongs to APC! You may not like Buhari because he is not doing the usual "chop-l-chop' style that we corrupt people are used to You may not like Buhari because prices of goods & products have been INFLATED by "profiteers" in each one of us while we blame Buhari But you must at least be honest to yourself that all the PAINS we feel today, would have occurred in even more severe levels, if Buhari has not come to the rescue and the last regime has been allowed to continue their "Dasuki-style" of endless looting of the treasury! I hope you guys noted that a Court in Nigeria has given a verdict of FINAL and TOTAL FORFEITURE of over $153 Million looted by just Dezziani Allisson Madueke alone! That is over THIRTY- TWO BILLION Naira! Another former NNPC GMD by name Yakubu Bello warehoused $9.8 million Dollars (which he claimed was a GIFT!) and 174,000 Pounds Sterling in just one of his houses in Kaduna! That is almost TWO BILLION Naira! Tell me, how do you expect the country not to experience all these problems we have today, when our Leaders/Politicians steal so much? Okay, "na my people", they should not be prosecuted, right? I have a feeling that God may still punish our people for being very dishonest, just like he punished those that killed Jesus by giving them a very wicked ruler afterwards. Make una Kwantinue, Dearis God! Lastpage! 1 Like |

SalamRushdie: Buhari destroyed Nigeria. Buhari put $15 million into Mama Piss' account. Buhari put 34 billion naira into Diezaini's account. Buhari kept $9.8 million in Andrew Yakubu's old family house. Buhari gave Obanikoro about 4 billion naira for election even when Obanikoro does not work in INEC. |

musicwriter: Thank you for listing those products! But how long has the British left us (By Independence)......... and what GOOD have we done to ourselves since then? A few other countries that got independence when we got our own are far-far developed than we can ever dream of, today Malaysia, Singapore and most Asian Tigers got independence around 1960. Malaysia did not have a single Palm Tree producing Palm oil good enough for export back then. They came to Nigeria to "buy" the Palm tree "seedlings" (when Nigeria was the World largest exporter of palm oil) but TODAY, Nigeria imports most of her Palm Oil from Malaysia Just imagine that? That is what bad, corrupt and visionless leadership, does to a once great country but you people said we should "leave them alone, Na our Brothers"! Issokay O. Lastpage! 2 Likes |

basty:You are ignorant of history. Do you know that the Niger-Delta region was formerly known as "Oil River Protectorate", so named by the Europeans due to the large volume of oil palm commodities [palm oil and palm kernels] produced and exported from the region before the creation of Nigeria? The Niger-Delta had always been the back bone of the economy of Nigeria even during colonial era before the discovery of crude oil in the region. Virtually all the rubber and timbers, and much of oil palm produces exported by Nigeria between 1914 and 1970 were sourced from the Niger-Delta region. The largest timber processing and exporting factory in Africa then was located in Sapele. The Niger-Delta have always been richly blessed from the beginning. |

ednut1: Do u just criticize African countries out of ignorance? Do u know that Botswana is far better than Nigeria and South Africa in terms of standard of living? Botswana's human development index (HDI) is among the highest, if not the highest in Africa. Don't be ignorant, go and read. |

lastpage: That's a good question and there's a reason for that.............. Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Brunei, Vietnam, all these countries have dropped the colonial model of brainwashing education given them by the colonial masters. After they got their independence, they re-invented education in their various countries to reflect knowledge acquisition by themselves, of themselves, and for themselves. They changed learning to their various native languages and was able to appreciate scientific knowledge that led them to scientific development, technological development- this naturally leads to industrialization. We cannot develop because we have not done that!!. Even though Philippines is also in that region of the world with a large population, but they have failed to reform their system of education, and the result is poverty. Because, no nation will industrialize without science!!. And like Philippines we remain in poverty because we have not been able to unlock our full intellectual potentials as we're still running on the minds of slaves. We cannot develop because we are in a new form of slavery called intellectual slavery- a byproduct of the initial slavery. What I've told you here is literally what the west don't want us to know. This's why I've concluded that intellectual slavery is the worst legacy of colonialism. For further reading see the link on my signature, part 1 and part 2. |

UNIQUEISRAEL:I made that comments just to let you know that I don't take sides when it comes to our country's leadership. I have observed in recent times that as nigerians, we have allowed our political, ethnic and religious sentiments to becloud our sense of judgements, instead of coming together as one to criticise/appraise/commend good/bad policies inherent in the country's leadership since independence. 1 Like |

Ademat7: Ademat7:he doesn't I guess! I grew up with proceeds from that precious tree(oil palm) and I tell u its a precious gift to nature. what we consume mostly here is Crude palm oil, if refined u HV refined bleached and deodorized palm olein dat we consume as Veg oil. d stearin is used for butter and lots of stuffs. Even d palm kernel itself has numerous applications outside d palm kernel oil. d waste is incinerated and packaged as manures while d raffinate obtained after extracting PKO is used in making poultry feeds. I can go on and on buh dats not necessary. visit any mill down south if u care and appreciate d wonders of Dis tree. our Govt is lazy and corrupt! read up the Malaysian experience and u will be amazed how retrogressive our govt implementation policies compared to them DAT got d fruits from us has been. Am working tiredlesly on palm oil projects, soon u will get to know more buh for now appreciate d gift of nature. urs affectionately, Akpan Akwa Ibom |
